I am looking at one of these for the wife, 48,800 m 03/03 reg £39,995 with Porsche Approved Used Car Warranty from a main dealer. Does this sound like a decent price ?

I know it costs more to buy from a dealer but I will be getting a better trade in, a proper warranty and it will have had a full service check over ?

Hi I personally wouldn't buy it due to milage and low spec, I'm going through the same process at the moment and the C4S seems to be very milage/spec sensitive. On the other hand depending on how many miles you'll put on it, if its not many, you'll probably will loose a lower %age of the purchase price compared to a £50K high spec low miler over a two to three year period.

Hope that helps a bit. smile.gif

Put it this way the 3.0 Z4 she had had from new is now 2 years old and has 7000 miles on the clock.

She only drives to the gym in it and goes to see friends family round the corner. I will of course have a play with it on occasion...

48,000 is above average miles but not massively, it will be pretty much back on track after a year or so of her driving it.

I have to say there arent many decent 996s around at the moment second hand , really not much at all.....

I will see what they offer as a trade in and take it from there...

patently's spot on. Give her the Audi and you buy the Porsche. That comment doesn't really help grin.gif

For 40k there's a lot of nice 996's you don't have to go a OPC, try some of the specialists. Just make it clear that you want the 111 point check done by an OPC & the Porsche warrenty.

I think you should look around some more not sure what spec is but mileage is very high, really should be looking at around 7k per annum.

Its gone anyway, I take onboard your comments on the mileage. Have to keep looking....Cant see anything on Autotrader, checked out the Porsche specialists on here that are recommended (Paragon, 911). Nothing really interesting me.

Anywhere else worthh looking ?

OK I am buckling under the pressure now, I saw a 4s today and I really, really want one......

I am thinking on upping my budget to £45,000 in search of a really nice 02 - 03 4s.

Is the 4s going to be that much better that the 2 wheel drive with stability control ?

I have seen a 996 C2 Coupe 2002 51

Seal Grey Metallic, Manual, 30000 miles, Electrically adjustable seats, Folding rear seats,

18" Alloy Wheels, PSM, Electric sunroof, Heated seats

Black Leather, Facelift Headlights, Full Porsche S/History

£35,990 (Dealer)

Does the price seem OK ? I am going to have to go a long, long way to look at it unfortunately....

The 4WD helps at times but does make the car more nose-heavy and understeery at other times. Passengers are usually gobsmacked by its willingness to stay attached to the road, though.

The real benefit of the 4S is the wider rear track.

What do people think of the red leather boxter interior on these ? Personally I like red interiors on silver cars (The out going z4 has this) but I am told its not great on the resale, got to say it looks amazing but personal taste and all that....Is it going to effect the resale value and make it more difficult to sell on ?

I have decided that we have to have the 4s btw and that means £45,000 for a decent spec low mileage 02 - 03 plate by the looks of it.

All Porsches are individual, to an extent. Buy the one that floats your boat and enjoy it. Whatever you choose, a trader will tell you it's wrong so he should pay you less. grin.gif

You're buying a sports car, not a Mondeo. It's meant to express your individuality. It's meant to look different. FFS, their premium model now comes in orange or bright green! A Porsche is intrinsically "different", so the normal rules of colour choice are (to an extent) suspended. The only Porsche that I have seen which really met problems selling on was a track-focussed 964RS in bright pink SMOKE6.GIF. For anything else, there is bound to be someone who likes it.

Anyway, FWIW red leather on a silver car looks great, IMHO. Some will disagree, but they will choose a combination that (to your eyes) looks awful. We're all different, and this is going to be your Porsche so get the one that suits you best. coffee.gif

Thanks I am glad you have said it as its what I have been thinking.

Many people seem to go for the safe colour combos ie silver with black leather interior, black with black leather interior....

Like you said I want it to stand out a bit and personally I do love red leather on silver cars...

I have rang up about around half a dozen cars now, The trade in price has been the same in all cases pretty much (Painful £19,000 on a 2 year old 6000 mile fully loaded 3.0se Z4)

Its the same on a 30,000 mile 03 Carrera 2 (£38,000) or a 2002 - 03 4s circa £45,000 - £46,000.

More and more I am going towards an official Porsche Dealer. All the independants I have rung so far wont spring for the 111 point check and Porsche 12 month warranty, of course they say they do their own checks and provide there own warranty for the most part. They are happy for me to pay to have the checks done and will met the costs of anything to get it through. But I will have to stand the cost of the Porsche warranty and checks, with a slight cash adjustment in price for the saving on their warranty. They are all saying this pretty much.

The cost of this if I am buying for the checks and Porsche warranty seems to be £1000 - £1500. For example I have already been quoted £500 for the check and £1000 for the warranty by my local Porsche dealer !

When you look at the difference in cost between going the independant route and through Porsche on similar cars there seems to be very little in it... two thousand maybe max.

Private sale is not really an option I have a car to get rid of, for me its far to risky these days to spend £45,000 on a motor in a private sale and sell a £20,000

car privately as well (Unless its to a main dealer at a silly low price)

One more question does 6 months in age really make that much difference to the value of a 4s say an 07/02 plate, 03/03 plate. We are talking 6 months, same mileage same sort of spec what would the difference in value be ?

I hope not, mine's an '04 53 plate C4S Cab owned from new. grin.gif

Sensible answer ... not sure really. I actually try not to keep abreast of used prices for my car, as it can only do one of two things - if low, it will upset me and detract from the joy of ownership, if high, it would tempt her to sell it and we don't want that, do we...

I lover red leather but hate boxster red leather, its very prangey and not a good shade IMHO, their flamenco red is fantastic but very rare (seen one ever)

re. 6 months this can make a big difference when car in newish due to depreciation curve, the ages you are talking maybe £1k but spec/mileage/condition much more influential. Finally be careful as Sep 02 is a watershed for me, MY03 cars have PCM2 instead of PCM1 and PCM1 llooks crap and has a bloody cassette deck 1!!!

If your looking for a dealer to help you then I would suggest Kenny Dunn in Edinburgh. I spent a long time looking at various cars at various dealers. I told Kenny what I was looking for, went to work for a couple of weeks, came back and he had the car waiting. Great service. Even the old Dealer Principal of the Glasgow OPC said Kenny's cars never leave in anything other than pristine condition. Kenny sorted the 111 point inspection and the warranty at the Edinburgh OPC but I had to pay for it and this cost was deducted from the top line of the car. You can't ask for much more. If memory serves the 111 point check & warrenty was £900.

Adam, I was fairly sure I was right in what I said but as I'm at work and bored I've made a few phone calls. A guy I work beside has just had his '02 C2 MOT'd by OPC Aberdeen 3 weeks ago and he always takes the extra cover at the same time. He was charged £695 for the warranty. I've just phoned OPC Glasgow and asked for a quote. I was told that from the first of November the warranty was increased to £825 which includes £151 breakdown cover, but you can't have the breakdown cover deducted from the warranty. The current charge for the 111 point check is £223. That’s a new total of £1048.

Alera, if you want to confirm these costs, I got them from the Glasgow branch 0141 943 1155.

The Aberdeen number is 01224 877 778 & Edinburgh is 0131 475 5000.

I think this is money well spent.

Have fun, I enjoyed the looking (test drives) almost as much as the buying.
