nikw
Guys, I have a question on behalf of a colleague who has just picked up a '04 530i: What would be involved in upgrading from the 'business' stereo/navigation system to 'professional'? Apparently the pro system does a moving map view on the centre screen whereas the business one only shows direction arrows. Does he need a new control unit (such as this for example) or can the existing system be upgraded via a new DVD or firmware? I'm assuming it's a hardware replacement job, but then I know almost nothing about BMWs
PeterS
I'm pretty sure you'll need new hardware and , IIRC, the business Nav uses the standard screen, so you will also need the larger 8.5" widescreen monitor. However BMW might do a retrofit kit, but I wouldn't even think of asking the price Peter
gizze
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?...hg=65&fg=95 Part number he wants is........65900397300 However if he can find the Nav Prof CCC and the 8" widescreen on ebay he can swap them himself. Screens fetch around £400 and the same for the CCC but he may bag a bargin. Don't even think the car needs programming, get them to d it when he has a service or in for something else but sure it works straight out the packet. Get him to search on www.e60.net forums as someone on there has done it.
nikw
Thanks for the responses He has since had some advice from a friendly BMW technician who suggests that the moving map display (which is what he was after) can be enabled by inserting the correct DVD. Originals seem to be available on fleabay for well under £100 so he's going to give that a go - at worst he'll have the latest mapping. I'll let you know what transpires... gizze
Don't beleive that sh|te!! http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=27439&hl=nav+retrofit You need to have a nav unit that reads DVDs for a start, sticking it in the cd one wont get him too far. You can buy the screen and the nav unit with the DVD for around £5-800 on ebay. Search ebay.de too.
nikw
Excellent link! From what I know of Audi Navi systems that makes sense. We'll see - I'm back in the office tomorrow so I'll ask him how he got on.
