FuntimeFrankie
My 7 year old son really wants a PSP for Christmas, but he also likes the DS Lite. The thing that puts me off the PSP is it's casing, I can see it being scratched quite easy by him, am I worrying needlessly? Would he be happy with the DS Lite instead, and is it's casing more robust?
Snail
The PSP has very few games, aimed at that young an age group. Its also not very dropable. The DS seems more robust, with more games suitable for youngsters
Thorburn
I think he'd probably enjoy the DS Lite more, but if he's got his heart set on a PSP then.........
Atomic
DS Lite without a doubt, whilst my kids love to play my PSP it doesnt have the game choice for their age that the DS has. I'm not sure it's more robust... too many moving parts - eg the screen and I'm not sure how much abuse the touch screen can ultimately take... And kids being kids I'd stock up with a few spare stylus's for em my Son lost 1 an hour after he got the DS and another a week later, he's now on his 4th in 3 months :\ I also think the memory card solution is better for kids than that umd drive... would be too easy to shove a pen or something in the drive assembly and wreck it imo... Atomic
Also... consider this.. you can get GBA emulators for the PSP (Not sure how legal they are ), mind boggles!
Torino101
Simply in terms of enjoyment the DS - I have a PSP and DS - can't remeber the last time I used the PSP. Whereas the DS comes with me on the train everyday to and from work - excellent amusement for passing the time! Much more fun to pick up and play than the PSP. Atomic
I use my PSP for videos lol... Currently use it for latest series's of BSG, LOST and Atlantis Have to admit it's got a much better screen than the DS in terms of quality but it wasnt enuf to convince me to buy it for the kids. gizze
The PSP is excellent as it has Ridge Racers and.........hmmm.......... The DS is awesome, got some really, really good games on it. My PSP has not been used for over a year, my daughters DS is nealry worn out, even my wife plays Brain Training and she hates games apart from Donkey Konga, Samba Amigo and Singstar etc. But, make sure he definitely wants one, no point if all his mates are swapping PSP games and he is stuck with one title between birthdays and xmas etc.
Torino101
Mario Kart - need I say more?....
shao_khan
I have a DS, and my cousin lent me his PSP - after that never felt the need to buy a PSP, DS is with me for the commute each day and takes a lot of beating. Online Mario / animal crossing is also excellent fun.
FuntimeFrankie
Thanks chaps, you have settled my mind, DS Lite it is for him. He likes 'Kill all Humans' type games, anything similar worth getting him?
MOSE
Got a pink DS for my Daughter for Chrimbo Frank. GAME are doing some good package deals at the mo and we got the DS, Simms Pets thing, Madagascar and one other for £119, which I thought was good value. Mind you these offers seem to change like the wind. One offer gave you the opportunity to choose any one of 10 games for free, and there were some good titles to choose from
FuntimeFrankie
I've found one on Ebay thats only been used twice, will bid on it tomorrow, as its black (Harry wouldn't like pink ), and £67 at present, with Mario and some footie game, which I thought was good?
