[ QUOTE ] We’re aware that a very small number of Xbox 360 customers have been experiencing some issues with their console after the Autumn Update has been applied. We’re working with each customer individually to resolve any problems. Any Xbox 360 customers who have any issues with their console should contact the customer service team on 0870 60 10 100. CarMad
Yeah I saw that a while ago on engadget, although its meant to affect a tiny proportion of users. Have you also seen that v1.10 PS3 firmware has also been released already...? The reason, no access to the PlayStation Network... Opppsssss

Dave
Whilst i was reading throught the forums, some people reckon that microsoft launched this update to disable "chipped" x-box's... why would you want to chip them?.. so you can play copied games? CarMad
Yep thats exactly what they want to do. Apparently the number of writable CD/DVDs sold since they cracked it have gone through the roof.
timps
To ‘chip’ an Xbox 360 all that is required is modified firmware to be loaded on the DVD drive. Very easy to do This allows you to make backups from your Xbox 360 and play your backups on it so your originals don’t get damaged. The fall update does not disable these modified drives so the consensuses of opinion is there must be another reason for the problems. Microsoft is getting over the problem of hacked drives by now supplying Xbox 360 DVD drives that can not be modified without the removal of the chip. They lock the chip in place with black resin to prevent removal although this bit has now been cracked. However new firmware for this new drive has not be cracked as of yet leading to speculation Microsoft will used hardware updates to prevent the problem rather than software. Dave
So how would you chip an x-box? not that i'm bothered about doing mine, but would you attach a USB dongle and then go from there? But how would you get to the firmware, because it isn't like a PC.. there doesn't seem to be any operating software.
Dave
and is the DVD drive in an x-box writeable?
timps
Depends on the drive you have installed these guides give you an insight. The great thing is you can put back to standard if all goes wrong in the future by backing up your original firmware. linky
Dave
so basically unplug your hard-drive.. see which type it is and then remove and update via your pc and then re-insert!! Doesn't seem to difficult.. but not something i'd want to do. I know you can pick up games for a fiver, but i honestly like to think that my money goes to the software house so they can develop new games, than go to organised crime. timps
Lets just say in my case 8 year old boy 2 trashed games now he is only allowed to play backups. My game is genuinely bought but sometimes by my friend as I keep his backups at my house for safe keeping and vice versa.
