Blimey, spend half a day away from TSN and miss all this excitement! shocked.gif

It was only about a week ago RR posted about remaps and replied something to the tune of "Why does everyone assume I'm going to get this done"! --I reckon we know you better than you know yourself Robin jump.gif

Sounds absolutely fab - I assume they rolling road test your car again after the ECU has settled? No doubt you will keep us updated as to what this remap is like to live with on a daily basis 169144-ok.gif

I know you have a good working relationship with your dealers. Have / are you going to advise them of the remap? what will be the warranty implications?

Enjoy! ECLIPSe.gif

Hi TT > Have already advised dealer of my remap and they are looking into why my VW ECU wasn't upgraded at its fairly recent service (discovered by my tuner). As rs32 points out - VW Technical might very well have a different view if there was a major issue but in that very unlikely event I'm not afraid to get specialist 'Legal Eagle' advice and take it from there if viable. Direct Cause would really be the fundamental fulcrum.

I'm always optimistic anyway.

Re you guys knowing me better than I know myself - I was just trying to stop the thread focussing too much on 'will he or won't he?' Also, at the time, I didn't know my dealer would be cool about it - That was my turning point.

You enjoying your Sport TSI ??

Nice one RR.

I'm still undecided on which one to go for.

....Who's on your shortlist?

I reckon that most of the reputable tuners are offering very similar products. My choice was made because of switchability, JKM impressed me about service, Revo know what they are doing and have excellent back-up and after service, other TSNers rate Revo highly. Abt would be my next choice. APS are a tuner I would want to check out. AmD don't impress me but do impress plenty of others. QST are worst of all - Bad attitude problems. ALL in my humble opinion.

The TSI is quite lively and fun to drive. Now covered approx 2200 miles and has opened up nicely. Obviously, I prefer driving the GTI for all the obvious reasons but for an every day work car the Sport TSI is fine - more fun than a normaly aspirated 2.0 for example and makes some really interesting and exciting noises (Supercharger mainly).

At the end of the day, you can really tell that the GTI is a £5k more expensive car - handling, brakes, power and interior spec. 169144-ok.gif

I'm sure this engine could really benefit from a remap - at least VW seem to think this 1.4 unit is strong enough to handle more power based upon upcoming models.

I thought stage 1 was with no extra's, like I originally had on my GTI, and then stage 2 is fitting a turbo back exhaust and some sort of intake/performance filter, but after speaking to Robin, he said they offered a different programme for stage 2

Jimmy, I'm probably not quite as 'hardcore' as yourself and I don't know enough to start mucking about with settings myself and getting it wrong. It would only cost me £50 to upgrade to Stage2 but I need to see how I get on with stage1 - Don't forget that the GTI is only FWD.

For Stage2 the torque would stay at the 300 ft.lb limit as now and the number of neddies would increase with extra work for the turbo etc.

I'm about to PM you.

PM received Robin 169144-ok.gif

I wouldn't say the stage 2 is "hardcore" it just takes intp account of the cats/air intake etc, thats why i thought you would have gone for it, otherwise your not getting the full potenial of a map and car. Ref the settings, the tuner does it all for you and you should be able to go through it with them, Sean at BBT adjusted it then let me drive, then adjusted some more followed some more driving until the car and i were happy.

....I used to think the same. However, my understanding from JKM is that Revo Stage1 and Stage2 are just different codes and that the Stage2 code is focussed on optimising the Hi-flow+Downpipe exhaust etc when it's present. Whatever the ECU map, standard or otherwise, performance is going to be effected by the presence of a Milltek etc but to different degrees.

I'm not sure if most other tuners offer different generic codes as well. I don't think AmD do, but SiBurt would know.

Jimmy 169144-ok.gif

Stage2 is more "aggressive" apparently but you are absolutely right - I'm not getting the fullest potential of my 'hardware' with Stage1 and I'm sure that Jim at JKM would make the adjustments for me.

However, one step at a time for me! petsy doesn't need your help to re-awake the worm in my brain!! grin.gif

Robin,

I had revo on one of my previous cars and I recall that when you used the security setting on the SPS3 dongle upon switching the map back "on" it took a couple of hundred miles for the car to get back to speed as it were. I would reckon on a tank and half of fuel each time you switch from standard to remap until you get full performance. At least thats what it was like when I had revo.

Hi DHA 169144-ok.gif

I'm enjoying my Revo Performance map so much - just had a good blast cool.gif - Discovered you can overtake safely in situations the standard car might not. The only time I'm likely to load the Stock VW map is for a visit to the dealer. I've just spoken to Revo and you are right - Their software can take 'drive time' to reach its fullest performance again after a switch to Stock, but it shouldn't take as long as you may be suggesting. Switching the anti-theft feature on/off makes no difference whatsoever to the map.

If the car battery is ever disconnected, you need to reload the Revo twice in a particular sequence (easier than I've made it sound!).

Im getting my car Revo'd Tommorow, im also in two minds, whether to get the stage 1 or stage 2 (bit weary of stage 2 as it might be too much for a FWD), i currently have Milteks and Carbonio intake on my car, will speak to the guys tomorrow and see what would they would recommend.

[/ QUOTE ]

Kam > I too have Milltek (Hi-flow+Downpipe) and Carbonio. I would start off with Stage1 - You can easily go to Stage2 for just an extra £50 later, IF you want. Stage2 is more aggressive but still not a problem. Revo have told me about a Revo'd 400 bhp / 300 ft.lb DSG Mk5 GTI which has now covered 30,000 miles with no problems. But such a car would be a handful on the road every day I expect!

Anyway, see what your chosen tuner has to say. And keep us informed 169144-ok.gif.

In my opinion, Stage1 is better balanced by a good set of bigger front brakes, so I'd say brakes are even more important for a Stage2. I'm afraid that suspension mods help a lot too...........Slippery Slope!!!! grin.gif

You could easily end up with a GTI like mine - Substantially modded but extremely well balanced in all respects for fast road use - And this isn't just my opinion but the opinion of those more knowledgable than myself.

I personally don't no.

(See previous posts on this on here by me)

Our Leon Cupra R and also a mates as well as his brothers Ibiza Cupra were all overfueling like a barstuard, the maps were all wrong for correct mixture and im certain with years of use something would have give.

Were they fast & fun YES and thats how owners seem to rate a product like this.

But as i have said in a previous threads they prob have improved there programing skills over the years, and the GTI is a totally different car/engine (i cannot stress that bit enough) but my opinion of the company from our previous experiences (that i have posted about on here before) meens i would never even consider them again myself.

I do really hope so mate, I really do 169144-ok.gifsmile.gif

I really don't like posting negative things and nearly did not post the above reply as i have said it before a while back but in a more diplomatic style.

As i say my experience is years ago now so i don't want to put people off or rubbish the company as it now is prob totally different anyway and everything fine. They have years more experienced and more experienced people on board now to prob make top notch products. Its just when your experience of a company is not good in the past you tend to avoid them in the future.

I've just had my car Revo'd and I'm interested in your comment about over fueling.

When I throttle off the car doesn't really seem to slow down much (like it did Pre-Remap). It's almost like the accelerator is still down, or cruise control is on - IE it's still being fuelled. Where normally I might just let off the throttle if I was getting to close to someone on the Motorway for example, I now find I have to brake. I'm waiting to see if it settles down after a few more hours / miles but it doesn't seem quite right to me at the moment.
