Dave
Can you explain more john, Isn't it already a HD DVD drive?
Jon
No problem. In the 360 the drive fitted as standard is just a normal DVD drive. The video output is HD. The HD-DVD Drive is an external drive which plugs in via USB and will allow you to play the new HD-DVD format movies which have a much more detailled picture. The HD-DVD drive for the 360 is £130 and the cheapest standalone HD-DVD player is about £500. Hope that helps. Jon.
Dave
Right!!.. thanks for that. I suppose this is where the battle starts between blueray and HD DVD. Can you get many films on HD DVD yet? Sounds a great idea though!
Snail
Im definitely not. I dont have a HD TV yet, and im not wasting my money on either Bluray or HD-DVD until either becomes the industry standard.

Chelsea Mick
Oh Yes!!!.. Now we're talking The Osmonds live in glourious HD Now where do I get a HD DVD drive for my
Chelsea Mick
However... Have just read this on a review of the drive [ QUOTE ] This unit can decode the new HD audio formats (DD+ and TrueHD) but then converts them to standard 5.1 as these formats cannot be transferred via optical. Lacking the 8 discreete outs means this unit is massively crippled compared to a genuine HD-DVD. This unit is a non starter for serious HT users. The difference between using these codecs is staggering. Half the reason for having an HD-DVD is missing from this product [/ QUOTE ] Hmmm... Is it really worth it if you don't watch a lot of DVD's and like me have the 360 setup in the Study/Office purely for gaming on a 27" HD LCD TV. The main 42" Plasma TV is in the lounge. Still a good price though fro a HD ready DVD player
Dave
I agree it's not for me as i don't play my x-box on out main telly (there is no way the kids would let me!) so i have a telly in my study (non-hd) to play my x-box on.
