Maxyboy
[ QUOTE ] ok then, fgs (for goodness sake) it was only a wee bit of banter! Does this mean if i buy a R, i will lose my sense of humour? c'mon guys, i've never been aggresive in my life, a wee bit cheeky sometimes but never aggresive. Can you feel the love? [/ QUOTE ] think this could be an imposter from the gti forum trying to spread ill feeling in this time of seasonal joy in the form of a potential R buyer.... everyone...watch your backs
Vagabond
Imposter??? nooooooooooooo. i signed the dotted line this afternoon for a DBP 06 plate! as i could'nt handle the 3-5 month wait. Calm Chris
[ QUOTE ] just to prove i'm not an eejit, [/ QUOTE ] Well you've set your self up nicely for a question now So how much did you pay, what's the mileage and the toys. Hopefully you got it at a nice price. Worse time of year to sell cars. MY 2007 cars getting all the orders. January sales. Winter due etc, etc, etc, Congratulations on buying a very decent car, post some pictures when you get her and in the meantime dish the dirt on the price and spec
Vagabond
Alrighty then. My gti, purchased 5/6 weeks ago for £18995. dealers are giving me £18600 back (very good so far) Their R32 06 plate with satnav, armrest with changer, leather recaro's (£2400) phone prep, and something else that i can't remember right now! the car has 5200 miles on the clock and is totally unmarked. List price (according to dealer, is £32000) mine for £26000. I await your knowledgeable replies.
Oli
£32000, must mean that it has every conceivable extra. However getting all but £400 back for yours and the fact that this highly spec'd .:R is very cheap at £24000, I would say that is a good deal. Go for it

wytco0
I wouldl say you did very well. Please post how you find the R32 compared with the GTI, in my view they are not very much alike !
Vagabond
woppum- think about the joke! "aw, thankyou sir" wytco0- i must agree with you, two very different cars. I originally wanted to throw money at the gti, modding it, but having given serious thought to traction issues, i decided to go for 4wd. I love the mk5 gti, but i hate driving it in this weather, i've had lots of hairy moments on bends and roundabouts in particular. I was sold on the benefits of the R32 after watching clarkson giving it some on the track, "tyres screeching on the wet track" how many cars can you say that about? zharca
Hi, yes that's a very good deal as R32 prices are really solid. My 3-door DSG with all the options, except Recarro, came to just on 29k. So look at it this way, if it's your own cash, rather than finance, the purchase price difference between the R32 and a regular (dare I say) top "hot hatch" is maybe 7-8k, that's worth about 8 quid a week in interest earnings. So roll up guys, You get a Vauxhall/Ford ST/Renault and ten quid a week as a straight swop for your R32s. Any takers?

Is the car 2007 MY or 2006 MY, I think all R32's from Oct 06 are 2007 MY
Vagabond
no mate, it's 26k and it's may 06. The only reason i can afford to go for the 32 is because of the gti p/ex. The R32 is a one owner, sold originally by the same dealer. Just got off the phone to my insurance company this morning and was expecting a shafting, but it's only a £16 admin fee to change cars! result. Calm Chris
All good stuff, enjoy it. Not sure where you are based, but you will find your favourite corners, roundabouts and A roads much faster. The M25 going North, turn on to the M40 London bound has a huge 270 deg bend- that can be done the wrong side of the national speed limit Another M25 turn off picking up the M11 South is another true stamp of 4 wd technology. Enjoy yourself and post some pictures when you collect it, will you be driving it before New Year?
Vagabond
cheers chri5, i'm based in a large playground, otherwise known as....SCOTLAND! hopefully i'll get the car at the start of the year, i can't wait. I might sound greedy but i want it remapped as i've never had a 300 brake car before. MUHHHHAAAAAAHA!
Calm Chris
300 bhp- In AMD format that's about £2500 or so for extras. Miltek, cams, chip and forced air induction. I'd think your insurer might want to bump the premium for that . I'd also consider putting a damage limitation film on the front lower face, my one short trip to Scotland in the Mk4 R32 resulted in £400's worth of blow over due to stone chips causing automotive acne. Pretty sure the London to Edinburgh journey (255 minutes v 415 miles) didn't help either. Averaged 21 mpg for the whole 1500 mile trip

Sorry but unless you are of racing caliber, you would never really feel much benefit of AWD on anything other than traction on pullaways or when the car is being driven to within an inch of it's life in poor conditions (which TBH is plain stupid on public roads). If you think that an R32 will run rings around the GTI for handling, you will be sorely mistaken. Remember the R32 has a bigger belly to lug around. My god i sound like a bitter GTI owner

I assure you that the 2 x junctions mentioned (as my car handling test points for all cars I've owned) are +15 mph over any fwd or rwd car. That's on bends that are sign posted as 40, in a good 2 wd it's 50-55 and in the R Mk1V was 65-70 mph- both are long (with sharp bits) 220-270 degree turns.
