I’ve just finished installing the MFSW on my B7 S4 . Here is a quick write-up on the installation.

First Disconnect the Negative lead going to the battery.

Remove the two clips either side of the steering wheel, and remove the torx’s screws which hold the air bag module in place. Unclip the airbag wiring harness connector and remove the airbag.

Remove the spilled blot holding the wheel in place. You should put this bolt in the bin and buy a new bolt, as it’s a thread lock type bolt.

Remove the steering wheel cowling and Slip Ring module module as described in the Cruise Control Retrofit post. Fit the new Slip ring and refit the cowling.

See in the picture bellow the different between the two slip rings the correct slip ring has 12 pin’s the top six are for the airbag and the bottom six are for the Multifunction controls on the wheel.

Remove the old wiring harness from the airbag module, to do this prise the yellow plastic up on each of the connectors, and remove both spade connectors you will then be able to remove the green and orange connector from the airbag. Install the new wiring harness and double/triple check the connectors are secure.

Fit the new multifunction wheel to the car and connect use the new thread lock bolt.

Connect the airbag wiring harness connector to the multifunction wheel connector, and push it into it’s fitting location.

7-mwsfconnector.jpg

Connect the airbag wiring harness to the slip ring, when it’s pushed all the way down you will hear a click.

8-slipringconnecor.jpg

tighten down the two torx head screws which hold the airbag in place and put the clips back to cover the holes

Reconnect the battery.

You will then need a VAG com to recode the SCSM for MFSW, and depending on what options you have like RNS-E and Bluetooth you will need to recode them for MFSW.

There will also be a fault code on the Engine due to you disconnecting the battery, just clear this fault.

For the B7 all the wiring is in place, but I'm not sure about B6, B5 models. I think I paid about £230 for the wheel.

TDiAvant,

How would I know if my wiring are in place for the MFSW?

I have just bought a MFSW from an Audi A8 to be fitted in my Audi A4 Convertible Registered March 2005, I called Audi to find out if my Car was B6 or B7 and I was told it is B7 but I am not sure if the wiring are in place for me to Retrofit this, can you send me some pix of yours as the pictures you posted are no longet available.

Thanks for the update garcon, I spoke to Audi and the confirm my car is B7.

I spoke to the person I bought the MFSW from and he said it is a staight swap, as the steering comes with the airbag and all needed, I will post some pictures ans I will make a video of the swap to help others willing to do the same.

I did a dry run of removng my current one yesterday and I was successful.+++
