brownswood
Hi all i need some advice on what to get, where to get it and how much to pay etc. I dont have any bars either so which ones should i get? Audi ones or thirdparty? I need to have quite a big box that can carry bulky and potentially heavy goods so whatever you can recommend would be great. thanks
gizze
I use the Thule system, aero bars, that I have had since my 320d touring, and used in the A4 avant, ML270cdi, A3 and 120d (with different foot pack) and now on the S4 avant. Also using a Thule roof box too. I prefer Thule as you can mix and match parts when you cange cars, so you don't have to start all over again. gizze
£100 for bars and £300 for a roof box, that is roughly, depending on size of box etc.
Milo
UBM, is it OK mounting the bars where you have them i.e. outside the dimpled area? The manual is very strict about where you put the bars I'd imagine as not to overload the roof to roof rail attachment (excessive bending moment etc). Mine are shown mounted as per the dimples on the rook rails. Did you move yours so you could open the tailgate?
Redavant
Have you had a look at www.thule.co.uk ? The matchmaker on there site is great, find your car choose its colour then play with what different boxes will look like. Great tool!

gizze
I got the Atlantis 200, only cause it was the one box that had quick relese, opened both sides, had really good storage space with a nice wide shape and looks neat on top of both the estates and smaller cars like the A3 and 1 series. Think I paid around £250 from Halfords.
Sponge
Atera Odyssey 800 from www.roofbox.co.uk. £220 in black. Some pictures here. My decision was partially based on needing to be able to have a bike on the roof too. If that's not a requirement, then you can obviously get a wider one. Just bear in mind storage when it's not on the car. Thule Aero roofbars from Halfords, good a place as any. £120ish.
