Nelson_R32
I'm considering prepping my own A3 before I pick it up because I'm never happy with the work our Valeters do and I'm hoping it'll knock another £100 off the car Anyone know if there are any good products which remove the protective wax from the cars? steelwind101
Nearly every car cleaning company does a CHEMICAL PAINTWORK CLEANER. I would get one free of oils so give the Zymol a miss in this case and then you can see what kinda conidition the paint work is underneath. You can get something like Megs. DC1 Paintwork Cleaner for £7.99. Poorboys Pro Polish is very good but very thin, a little goes a long way. You might want to try some clay to, its probably been hit by all sorts of fall out etc. Then i would look at a glaze or your own wax to finish the prep. rich1068
[ QUOTE ] I'm considering prepping my own A3 before I pick it up [/ QUOTE ] I had a feeling you'd say that... Just thinking out loud here but if you're wanting to 'make the car your own' as it were, would it not be a good idea to take the paintwork right back with something that will strip all waxes eg Fairy and then start with the specialist cleaners and waxes? Then from day one you've used only the best products applied by yourself. Just thinking out loud as I said but what a project!
NeilScarrott
In my experience, Fairy is soo mild now, it didn't strip much for me, a good paint cleanser does the job, a pure one like Meguiars Deep Crystal 1 is a good choice. steelwind101
Yeah lots of people in the USA use "dawn" washing up soap to strip there cars though alot of people suggest that is wrong, i do too. So many people think Fairy is the same and subsitute that instead.
johnlondonw3
Why not ask the guys at Polished Bliss they recently did a pre delivery prep for a bloke who was getting a new Q7,you can see it on http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=34035
malagus
IIRC fairy and the suchlike contain salts and slight abrasives, so probably not the best thing to strip wax from fresh paint as it may put light scratches into the clearcoat. BryD
I take you a refering to the copolymer transport wax? if so you will need something specifically for the job. http://www.autosmart.co.uk/Dewaxers.htm this is the sort of thing you will need
Nelson_R32
Well in the end I managed to get Lifeshine applied for a stupidly cheap price so I'll leave it to the Valeters to sort out! I'm happy its getting a little more attention than normal car at least
