What to buy for £18-20k

My next car is more than likely going to be an e46 M3. However, its so easy to get an idea in your head and not give the competition a fair chance.

So what else should I consider?

It must be fairly modern (up to about 5 years old), powerful, reliable, and it needn't be "practical" as such, but I'd like some form of rear seats. 169144-ok.gif

To be honest there aint much in your price range which i can think of that would match the M3.

A firend of mine has a S2K which he bought for £14k and spent 4K on a supercharger and change in pully etc to get it up to 300 whp... its rather rapid... but thats the modding route.

You thought of the 350Z?

Considered it - but I'd have a problem with buying a Nissan over a BMW!

S2000. Too cool for School. Just too small for me. When the Missus wants to upgrade her MX5 though, that's what she's having. Not up for discussion like! grin.gif

You bloody class tart... lol.gif

Nothing wrong with the Datsun.. i mean Nissan badge! wink.gif

Fair point though, if you want the 'quality' of BMW then fair enough but just remember one thing, no one will let you out of a T junction! yelrotflmao.gif

I have to say that the 350Z is a great machine by all accounts but when spending that kinda monies you have to be fully satisfied with the purchase.

ohh... is the boxster S in your price bracket yet?

Had the same dilemma bought an M3 as well- 2002 for 20k.

Aleays been suspicious of Skylines.evos,imprezas-all that power from a 2.0l engine, cant be reliable if pushed.

Dont be fooled... as long as they are maintianed they can run all day long although the scooby does not liked to be reved to redline.

I had a MR2 Turbo which as standard pushes out 245bhp and hits 60 in 5.2sec. Top end 160+...

I abused the car for 2 years and had the boost upped from the standard 13psi to 16psi and added an apexi induction kit. Oil change and oil filter every 4/5k and it ran like a dream. That being said the 3SGTE is a rock of an engine.

This all from a car that was made in 1994 and i owned it from 2003 to 2005 and loved every minute of it.

Had a play against a E46 and off the line i got about half a car length in front and thats how it stayed till 80 there was nothing in it.. and then from that point onwards he started to pull past me slowly. I was pushing 252bhp and 275 lb-t of torque.

Ahh... the good old days.. frown.gif
