spook
Can anyone confirm what build week is currently being quoted by dealers for new S3 orders? I understand that week 22 is the changeover for the 2008 MY spec, so I am considering timing an order to make sure I get the 2008 spec, hopefully at 2007 MY prices before any increase. Also, does anybody know, if I did make an order based on 2007 MY spec for delivery after week 22 and some tasty new options appeared in the meantime for 2008 MY, whether the dealer would contact me to update me on the changes and give me an opportunity to change my spec? h5djr
Details of any changes for the next model year are usually given to dealers around May and the changes take effect from 1 June.
Fazzzman
I'm also keen to find out what the changes are as I'm looking to order a 170 TDI Sportback. I called into my local dealer to ask what the lead times are currently on delivery. He said that production of the A3 had been slowed right down to clear the stock and thought that there may well be significant changes 'ahead' ... he then theorised that he didn't think the changes would impact the sportback as it came out later than the 3 door. He was saying that it was 10-12 weeks now, so that would take us into the new model year (acording to the previous post), but all this was unconfirmed - you've got to order and then get your build week. It was all very vague and I think mainly guesswork. Does anyone know any more?
h5djr
Audi build all A3s 'to order' and do not have cars 'in stock'. As soon as a car is built it leaves the factory by train the same day. The Sportback has been available since 2004 and there have been a number of fairly minor changes each new model year since it's intoduction. The same goes for the 3-door. 10-12 weeks is the normal delivery for a new A3 and the model year changes effect cars built after 1 June each year. Details of these changes are usually given to dealers some time in May. The sales guy probably used to work for a Ford dealer!

h5djr
I doubt if there will be many major changes for the new model year. Minor changes possibly and you may well prefer what you have already ordered.
Fazzzman
They must have some stock as I got mine new 10 days after ordering it back in March 2005. It could have been a cancelled order but at the time the salesman had loads for me to choose from - certainly gave me the impression that there was a pool of them waiting to be allocated. How's it going with the 170 - how does it compare to the 140 - hopefully quicker but are there any downsides?
h5djr
There could well be cars ordered by dealers or Audi UK to meet their allocations but that have not yet been taken up by a particular customer. Cetainly all the A3s I have ordered have taken at least 8-10 weeks to be delivered and I have always been given a build date weeks in the future. It may depend if you are prepared to accept one of a dealers unallocated cars rather than one with particular options and colours. My new 170 is better than my previous 140. The engine is both smoother and quieter and I like nearly all the minor changes that have happened since my 2004 model. At the moment there is a slight downside in that the fuel consumption is lower but this may well improve as the engine gets a few more miles on it. It's still only done about 1500 miles. It does accelerate better but I shall be taking it on holiday to Austria via Germany in June so perhaps I will get a chance to see just how fast it does go! Fazzzman
Smoother and Quieter sounds good - you'd be forgiven for thinking that more power would mean more noise from the same size engine!
