david1
Hi members Just a quick question. This is the second pair of new tyres on the rear that I notice has worn from the inside of the tyres out, almost 3/4 width of the tyres. Tyre pressures are checked every two weeks so no problem there. This is a FWD A8. Any recommendations near the MK or surrounding areas with the correct equipment for tracking correction or am I missing something - if so what can be the cause? SneakyMcC
FWD = FrontWD or FourWD?
grdunn123
How many miles are you getting on the rears? Sounds like a suspension prob maybe?

david1
I don't do that many miles. I had put on 4 new pirelli aysometrics (I think that how its spelt)after the rear dunlops were worn but thought nothing of it about three years ago. The rear wore the same so I changed front to rears, no change. Eventually I put a set of continentals on the rear had it balanced etc. I now noticed they are doing the same thing. In all that time if I said I did 15000 miles in the last three yeas that would be a lot. I have never had an alignment done would this help? grdunn123
Certainly wouldn't hurt, how old is the car and what mileage?
david1
Its a 1997 with 130K
grdunn123
Would be worth getting a full geometry set up done. When you consider the cost of replacing tyres that are wearing before they should then it's well woth the outlay.

Normally well worth it tho. I wont let anyone else near mine when it comes to this!

Ska
When you do the alignment fill up your tank with fuel. I've got a FWD as well and wait for it have never had to replace the rear tyre as yet and I've covered 36K miles on them and I'm lugging around 60Kg worth of sound equipment all the time so defo something wrong with your set up there Oh mines a '97 v6 with 130k on the clock as well

david1
Yep I am convinced. I will fill up prior to the test but what effect would that have with regards to the set-up?

ronmcl
[ QUOTE ] I shuttle between London & Bucks [/ QUOTE ] Can't recommend anywhere for alignment down that end of the country, but sounds like you've found somewhere anyway. [ QUOTE ] ...what effect would that have with regards to the set-up? [/ QUOTE ] The geometry changes as the car is loaded up with weight - even with relatively clever suspension set-ups like on the A8. Better to have it aligned perfectly with some weight in it. david1
Thanks for the response. I have not found any place as yet although one of the members suggested that the main dealer was the best option a full geometry set up so I am considering this.
