pingpongpo Posted June 2, 2007 Report Share Posted June 2, 2007 Me failed as well Got 5 minor faults and 1 serious one which meant a big cross in the fail box. I was on some dual-carriageway and the test guy said to take the 4th exit at the rounadbout so I looked in my mirrors (can't see a great deal at 70mph because of the vibration, it looks like a blur) to manoureve into the correct lane (signalled, lifesaver etc) and I saw this car in the mirror so I looked where I was going again and then looked at the mirror again, the car was at the same distance etc so I did my mirror, signal, lifesaver etc and moved out......The test guy reckoned the guy behind me had to slam his brakes on etc etc. I don't think I caused this at all but theres nothing you can do about it once his mind is made up and the fact that my retest is on the 15th with the same guy (there is only 1 motorcycle tester in ipswich) means I didn't want to get on his tits too much as he might have it in for me. Anyhooooo, apart from that everything was cool, hill start, u-turn, emergency stop etc all done fine. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Hudson Posted June 4, 2007 Report Share Posted June 4, 2007 Bad luck guys, i have only recently passed my DAS (at 43), i was worried as hell about the U turns and only really got 50% of them right when i was out training but it just came together on the test (amazingly). Scotty Posted June 5, 2007 Report Share Posted June 5, 2007 My mate sent me an email today and told me he put his foot down on his test. At the end of the test the examiner told him to have another go and passed him!!! He also did a stoppy during his emergency stop but maintains that because he was always in control he couldn't be failed. My instructor disagreed and now I've found out about his two attempts at a U-turns I'm really gonna have to give him a good kicking!! Had a real good day, did about 70odd miles in total through all sorts of environments/roads/junctions/lanes/ etc.. Really enjoyed it although it was quite tiring! One thing though, he didnt do filtering and thats the one thing i forgot to bring up until i got back home! oh well. Supposedly the other days(1.5 days) will just be test routes, followed by the test in the afternoon...Im keeping everything crossed as i dabbed my foot down once yesterday doing a bastard U Turn too! Hudson Posted June 8, 2007 Report Share Posted June 8, 2007 Ditto on the filtering, me neither, i did ask and my instructor says it is not covered due to it not being in the test, and his ultimate goal is to get you a full licence. I then had an extra lesson after i passed early one Monday morning into the city just to go through filtering and the chaos that is the ''daily commute''. Good luck. Scotty Posted June 8, 2007 Report Share Posted June 8, 2007 The filtering was really a bit of real world advice/training. Don't even consider it for your test. I was told that if you do it you may get some brownie points but you won't get marked down if you don't. Also if you do then you need to make sure 110% that it's totally legit. Im really pissed off as i had 2 minors all test, but one mistake the examiner classed as 'serious'; At a dual lane Crossroads controlled by traffic lights turning right, lights go green i move into the centre ready to turn, wait for cars that are going stright across my path to go, then i pull away, although there was 1 last car approaching and the examiner said he was too close, and had to brake. I strongly disagreed as i would have made the same decision in my car, and would have got to the other side of the road calmly and safely! Its not like i want to get hit by a car is it?!!! I pretty much had a perfect ride the whole time i was out, did everything as i should. The bit that really fecked me off was that the thing that i failed on was at the very beginning of my test, and he knew he was going to fail me and just carried on watching me squirm! I know thats how the tests are carried out but im pissed off so have a right to moan! Anyway, its going to cost a further 100quid to resit it and that cant be for 10 days! Im totally gutted! If i had waited until the light went back to red, i could have been mullered by cars coming from the other directions! Like you said, sometimes you just cant win! it seems it wasnt my day eh!! Look on it positively if you can. Get some practice in, get a proper nights kip the day before and try again. From the sounds of it you are quite capable of passing. whisky Posted June 15, 2007 Report Share Posted June 15, 2007 Unlucky pal, its a real shame. It would be great to think that there is a standard that doesn't alter from examiner to examiner. But I doubt it, I'm sure they all have difficult decisions to make on most tests and often get it wrong. Bit like being a footbal ref. What's interesting is that when you made the manouver you didn't give it a second thought and carried on as normal. Was he directly behind you? and did he follow you through the same lights? If he did, I would complain. Having said that complaining aint gonna get you a license. I was given some good advice by the guy that taught me to ride - The tester wants to see confidence but not over confidence and be as text book as you possibly can. Sadly like you said, complaining wont get me a licence, and ive seen the examiner 2 days in a row whilst ive been driving for work in a town about 20odd miles from where i took my test! small world and all that, but im sure he is set to try me!! Had a different tester who, as it turned out wasn't that bad in my opinion but the instructor I had a couple of weeks ago spent most of the course saying this and that about him......I don't think they get on....... If I wasn't on my test then I'd have gone for it but having a tester with you is like having a copper riding behind you. It was really busy and he said that it was it was a tough call but since he would have gone thats how he had to mark it. I reckon me waiting an and then just getting a minor was better than rushing and risking a fail for it being viewed as dangerous. It is down to a judgment call though so it's a toughie. My preparation couldn't have been worse. I had 2.5 hours sleep and then the drive back from Le Mans. I took loads of Red Bull so then had a crap night. This morning I popped 4 ProPlus and it saw me through. I'm feeling very slow now and relieved the test went ok. It's weird that the bike thing is now over for me ... for a while and maybe forever. I wanted to learn how to ride and get my licence and if we buy a house where a bike is useful for the commute then it's a great option. With a 2 year old and a job that takes some evenings and weekends then option of a bike just for fun simply isn't there. I suppose never say never and in a couple of years I may change my mind. Time will tell. p.s. Well done Simon. It's a great relief isn't it. p.p.s. Ollie - good luck mate. The waiting's a real pain isn't it. The fact I haven't ridden since my DAS two weeks ago didn't hinder me as it just all came back to me straight away.
