Surprising how many people still think Skoda make 'poor' cars! openfire.gif

Told one of my workmates that my dad was currently touring Scotland in a mates MkII Skoda Octavia vRS. She turned her nose up! 'A Skoda.'

Agreed. Skoda make fantsatic cars for the price. I have recommended Fabia vRS's many times to mates, but always been laughed at...Unfortunately they still don't hold massive mainstream appeal.

Plus, remember they're up against VW, Seat and Audi from the VAG group, plus Jag, Merc and BMW. I can't see Skoda having more badge appeal than any of them, regardless if they're better cars or not...

Whereas, I would rather have a Fabia, Octavia or Superb over any Ford and the majority of BM's (which I consider ugly).

My mate has a new Octavia RS, and I applauded him for getting it.

I would have slapped him if he got a Ford!

New engine + new roof (which I've needed around 6 months) is about £1000, thinking its probably worth it really.

Sorry for delay only just got on. I work for a well not not very reputable window instilation company in the accounts department.

Basically we were saying if all cars looked the same from the outside but were badged up differently. What order would they be put in according to badge alone. We did not mention styling interior or drive just the manufacture.

For example. Vw seat and skoda may use the same chasis but if they styled the car the same and just badged it up differently what would people have. Most would go for the VW if money was not an issue due to the prestige the badge has over the other two. Thats what we were getting at. Nothing more nothing less. 169144-ok.gif

Dad stopped by on his way back to Hampshire today and I just cooked him dinner. He deserved it having just run 50 miles around Cape Wrath, the very north west tip of Scotland. Mad if you ask me!

Almost 1500 miles covered in aforementioned vRS (MKII 2006 '56' Petrol TFSI). Comments included the floor hinged throttle, entering corners at speeds which felt 'too quick' only for the car to grip wondefully, the engine strength when going for it, and the 'night into day' xenons. Great car for the main A roads around the very north of the Highlands which are only single track with passing places! Thumbs down went to the seats and the ride, although to be honest you cannot have the handling and grip without these two being more 'sporting'.

Driven mine down to Portsmouth today, keeping it down below 3000rpm (well 4000rpm on the motorway) as the new parts bed in, still got a rattle but fingers crossed.

Even then still brilliant fun, went out with a friend tonight and so long as you can keep the momentum up it can still cover ground at a tidy rate 169144-ok.gif

Think I'll save up for a new engine, then maybe for a visit to Performance5 sekret.gif

Are they worth it in terms of bhp/£?

Just over £2000 would see 200bhp with a supercharger, up from 140bhp.

Well, I'm not up on mazda motors, but it's a lot cheaper to change things like heads and clutches when an engine is out of the car rather than in it. If I was swapping engines in the 100 I'd consider a few things, check the MX-5 forums for info.

I've gotta save up for a new engine anyway so will investigate my options and keep running the current one 169144-ok.gif

One other thing I had considered was the MX-6 2.5 litre V6, but its heavier than I was expecting and doesn't give much extra with regards to power. Then you'd have the hastle of the conversion so not worth it.
