18" wheels on E92 M3 = idiot?

Just finishing off the spec but I don't like spending £ so wondered about not getting the 19" wheels. The press seem to say that the 18" wheels are fine and I'm not bothered about the look. Also keen to save some £ up front and then later on tyre replacement.

On the flip side the last M3 is worth £1k less on 18" than 19" so will the E92 follow this lead with the 19" upgrade cost essentially being free?

In the Autocar article it it mentions that the chassis engineers said the 19" alloys kill the ride / handling of the M3. I know everyone will want them for the looks and image in the UK but the car hasn't be optimised for them so it would seem.

I'm not sure if I've seen the 19"s but if I new it had such an effect for the car I'm not sure I'd want them anyway. crazy.gif

I'm getting EDC anyway so the wheel choice should not matter too much viz a viz ride comfort. Overall I'm pretty much against the UK push for bigger and bigger wheels.

I guess it all depends on how long I keep the car. If its less than a year then 19" for resale are the way to go but if its longer then I should choose it more for myself (with the lower tyre cost of 18").

That's what they said about the E46 and I couldn't tell the difference between them in terms of ride quality and performance.

Unless you're Fernando Alonso, I very much doubt you'll notice much of a difference.

I drive with the 18"s and have driven the 19"s on a mates. Personally i think the car rides better on 18's it seems less jarring on bumps feels more 'natural'. At the ring is 3 sec quicker too. I drive track days alot so cant be arsed to change to 19's.

18's for GO, 19's for show my man....

Drivers know the difference! 169144-ok.gif

Agree with the re-sell prices though beerchug.gif

Look i'm not saying that the 19's dont look better they do.

But if they compromise the setup and you have to never have read any reviews or listen to anyone involved in motorsport/racing to think otherwise. That is with the exception of the CSL (CS) magnesium 19's which have different rack and set up. These offer the best of both worlds great looks and handling.

Then I guess your just buying the car more for it's looks than how it drives. Which is the opposite of what I look for in car.

But we all different, which is what makes the world such a special place suicide.gif
