Golf 5 facelift?

Is the Golf MK5 going to get a facelift or will it simply carry on to the MK6?

Well a mate in VW HQ told me we would be getting a 5.5 facelift, but if that is the case we'd be expeting it anytime now.

It is a sort of both,

IIRC what i was told along time ago now it has the same glass and roof panel but the rest of the bodywork was different especially the doors and door hinges as there a nightmare to assemble correctly in production. The chassis is the same with minor update to make assembly quicker and so cheaper. More bigger parts less small fiddly ones. Less choice and models to keep costs down. Out about this time next year if i remember what i was told correct.

Word on the street is Late this year/early next year for a facelift.

March 2008 they will hit the UK. Very, very mild and more in line with the Jetta/Touran/Touareg bling chrome front end. Not much else other than that...

So basically im right in thinking there sticking the crome front on for a runout model until the mk6 comes out at the backend of that year?

I feel sorry for the R32 owners, first it was the cheap looking alloys now fitted and for the new model year chrome grills fitted to all models bar the GTI.

Same things happened on the current A4 range - RS6 alloys on all the S-Lines and fully loaded.

Normally happens towards the end of a model's life to keep sales going before the new model is officially announced.
