Mark230175
I ordered some LED side lights from Ultraleds, seemed like decent quality with resistors built in, problem is that they stay on for about 5 seconds then just go off, if i turn the lights off then on again it does the same thing, they just wont stay on! has anyone else had problems with led's in the MkV?? jimmyp
Ive had numerous amounts of these from ultraLeds, and now run standard bulbs as they are just two unreliable. They look good for all of about two minutes then will probably start blinking at you or not working. Crap.
Gti_Fly
Chuck them in the bin or send them back and see if u can get a refund. Those Ultra LED's are 100% crap. Been there, done that, wasted money. Even the Phillips cool blue h6W don't last much longer than 12months at best in my car. I've now given up totally, and reverted back to using original VW h6W sidelights (which are long life bulbs) and they've so far lasted the longest out of all of them! macdaddyR32
you see i've had two sets on two different cars and found them awesome, i know they have upgraded the leds to some new ones recently. BTW they do look great against the xenons, the normal yellow glow looks so bad once you've had those led bulbs
Mark230175
Thanks guys, looks like i'll be sticking with the normal bulbs from now on then, i'll source some decent ones that arent yellow!.
Decked
I've got to say, I've only had one go on me and it had been in for well over a year. I've replaced it and they've been fine (touch wood)
james1978
Same with mine,I've had them in about a year,And there still going strong. dogbucket
There is nothing wrong with your new LEDs All mkv golfs have blown bulb detection on alot of the circuits in the car. If the car thinks that the bulb is blown it will cut the power to that bulb after a few seconds, and because LEDs draw very little current that is what it thinks if they are fitted. see my thread on a footwell light mod I did for ideas on how to get around it. here And I ran the current Ultraled ones on my mk4 R32 for over a year no problems. VR32
I've found the best bulbs to use which match the Xenon closest are these Polarg bulbs, can be found on ebay. Have lasted over a year so far with no issues. Pics show the effect they give although not quite that blue in real life.
Mark230175
Thanks for that info Dogbucket VR32 those bulbs look pretty cool, nice and bright, i presume they are similar to the PIAA extreme white ones, which ive also been looking at. Mook
I ran the PIAA bulbs for a while, but they look too blue IMO, especially when you've got the Xenons on
Mark230175
Just bought the Polarg bulbs off ebay now, coming from Malaysia only 6 quid. was gonna go for the PIAA ones but Mook put me off
dogbucket
I agree that VR32s look good. I bought some no brand ones off ebay which have a very dark blue tint and get almost no light out of them at all making them useless in the rain etc. Might give those a try instead
Golfgirl
I got mine from here: http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/aceparts_uk - they've been the most reliable so far and still work
