I'd be tempted to get a Hero's Mansion to Level 10 and a Hero, and then get a second village. This will increase resource production and you'll be able to build a decent sized army relatively quickly. Which will hopefully avoid the pain of having a smaller one wiped out. Hes always asking what the plan is. Last attack he only sent his hero (to get points) hes online through all these attacks.
