Timski
Took my Anni to the local stealers for its 50k service on Saturday. They had a black 3 dr manual in the showroom with the new Omanyts on it. It looked devastatingly good. Pictures don't do these wheels justice - I think they suit the car better. They somehow make it look 'chunkier'. I managed to find a picture of a silver 3 dr on the Top Marques website and it looks stunning. I had convinced myself to hang on to my Anni for a bit but my trip to the dealer as made me SERIOUSLY want one again.

Michael1984
why have they changed the wheels?
Timski
Probably just to freshen it up (or they're cheaper to produce knowing VW these days!)
Michael1984
well when i ordered mine a year ago mine was held up due to the lack of the zolders, i had to wait an extra few weeks because of this. i am not keen on the new ones they look like they should be on the gt? Timski
I know they're not to everyone's taste - there's been some comment that they look too much like the V6 4 Motion wheels but having had a really good look at them on the weekend I absolutely love em. Michael1984
I may pop to my local deal and have a look, i didnt know that they had changed them to be honest, i have just bought the 19inch ultralegger...............
Timski
They're still only 18s but they seem to look bigger than the Zolders and they fill the arches better, IMO.
mlhj83
Guys, I have just done a check on the Omanyts and they are made by Speedline and are a hell of a lot lighter than our Zolder alloys. Definitely not a cost cutting measure by VW. They definitely do look good in the flesh.
Michael1984
have you got the site that you had checked?
mlhj83
Can't trace back where I found it but I kept a picture and I do remember that it weighs around 10kg which is pretty good for an OEM alloy considering the 8x18" OZ Ultraleggera is only around 2kg lighter. Michael1984
yeah but the ultralegger look loads better than the zolders or the Omanyts, i think anyway. lol
Timski
There's a silver one (with pics) with the new wheels at Leicester Volkswagen. It's on the Top Marques website. I would post the pics but it's too technical for me.
mlhj83
Granted the Ultraleggera is obviously better looking, but comparing the quality between the Omanyts and Zolders, the Omanyts wins hands down. I was just using the Ultraleggera as a comparison for the weight of the Omanyts.
Michael1984
yeah i know i would still go for the zolders, the Omanyts look to bulky like they should be on a standard golf. will have a look in the flesh and see if i change my mind LOL

Mook
I think they look better than the zillion spoke options on the original Mk5 R32, but still not quite as good as BBS CHs
mlhj83
Agreed. But between the Zolders and Omanyts, I have grown to like the Omanyts which IMHO look a lot cleaner and elegant, not forgetting that they are made by Speedline and are a hell of a lot lighter that the Zolders by Ronal. The Omanyts do a lot more justice to the good looking brakes on the Mk5 as well.
Michael1984
I think it would have been a nice touch if they had put the number on the steering wheel to show when it was produced like they have done in america? http://picasaweb.google.com/KCStix/R32PreDelivery/photo#5095067531637020098

Therefore, not possible on ours. I would have much prefered if VW had put a R32 badge on the clusters.
