stooH
Excellent, and they fit at the place I usually use. Cheers
Jack_is_Back
[ QUOTE ] Are they only for the 18's or do they do them for 17's as well? [/ QUOTE ] The tests were actually carried out using the 225/45/17 size. Interestingly they mention the GTI Ed30 was 2.5 seconds quicker round the track with 17s, rather than the 18s fitted as standard!
stooH
I assumed that they'd be quicker when I decided not to upgrade to the 18's
JonnyGTi
[ QUOTE ] Oops I've just bought four PS2s, but I have to say the grip is superb. The car feels like I have uprated the Anti Roll Bars, the turn in is much sharper and the car feels lighter. It's strange if they didn't do well, haven't seen the test, as they are very highly rated by other magazines but it is only their opinion, it would be interesting to see other tests. [/ QUOTE ] Don't worry too much Mike, the PS2's actually came 3rd on the subjective Road Route and praised for the way they dealt with all manner of bumps and ridges, and for their agility . The Goodyear was slightly lower in this test, 5th, and praised for its steering feel and grip. The Vredesteins won this test hands down by five clear points. Subjective Road Route Test (25mins on mix of surfaces) The tyres were driven blind 1. Vredestein 100% 2. Dunlop 92.5% 3. Michelin 90.5% 4. Pirelli 89.4% 5. Goodyear 88.9% 6. Bridgestone 88.1% 7. RedRobin
I saw those new Vredesteins at GTI International - They even offered putting some on my car so I could test drive them, but I didn't have time.
JonC
First time I've used a forum, but I have a question. Apologies for those old skool Tyresmoke users, but please bear with me; if you can help, then that would be great. I have a 2007 MkV GTI with 18" Monza II's (225x18x40) Can anyone tell me if its possible to put the new RS4 7-spoke 19" alloys straight onto my GTI? I believe there is the offset to take into account, but having no knowledge of technical things, it goes straight over my head. Is it possible? Furthermore, I have no idea what size tyres to accommodate the alloys. Another dilemma I have is do I go for the replica ones or fork out for the guenuine? I know, many questions, but some help would be seriously appreciated!
stooH
Have no idea about the technical detail (I think as long as the rolling circumference is within 10% you're ok) but IMHO you should stick with the Monza's, lovely wheels and make the GTI what it is. DHA
Welcome to TSN. I would personally go for genuine wheels as replicas can be heavier than stock wheel and not necessarily of the same strength.

JonnyGTi
You need to check the PCD and offset. I think you're OK with the PCD as both cars are 112. However the offsets might be significantly different - something like 20 for the RS4 and 42-50 for the Golf Tyres on 19" rims should be something like 235/35/19 This guide may help : http://www.tyres-online.co.uk/techinfo/alloy.asp
RedRobin
A Warm Welcome to Tyresmoke, jmc36 . Although there are some great looking wheels out there that will both fit and suit the Mk5 GTI, I have to say that the original Monzas are a fundamental part of the Mk5 GTI identity. Also they are extremely easy to clean! But each to their own.
JonC
Looks great with RS alloys, but I am now inclined to stick with the originals. Thanks anyway
JonC
Thanks for your input DHA. I'm going to stick with the Monza II's.

I let it slip and got the White Worms: Corroded Monza 18s Thread I've got absolutely no regrets about having Monza 18s though.
