alera
Have to admit this is a bit or a churlish thread. Not surprised people are getting a bit excited. On the matter of overtaking its ridiculous to match power ratings when its virtually impossible to overtake ie on country lanes. As someone has pointed out bigger factors than power are, driving ability and more importantly bottle (read stupidity) People driving like idiots on country lanes really annoys me. They are already dangerous enough without driving like c**** I was driving back from my sisters in Sheffield on the snakes pass on Sunday, after dark terrible weather conditions the roads a death trap at the best of times, some idiot in an 520d driving like a lunatic, obviously I let him past. Could I have stopped him passing me of course I could. You could stop just about anything passing you on that road in a Lada if you really wanted. Do I want to drive like an idiot and risk the life of my wife and dogs. Obviously not. Its just a bit of a silly discussion really.... To put it in perspective my dad witnessed a terrible accident on a country lane with two bikers racing recently, one of the bikers ended up hitting an on comming car and went straight through the windscreen. Lucky he didnt kill the car driver as well as himself. My dad then goes over to see if he can help and the guys mates all aggressive my dad has to back off through fear of getting hurt himself. Hes a retired doctor trying to help. These are the sort of idiots who race on country lanes...

highflyin
Yeh "Nothern Monkey" but you can buy a house with land and stables for about 100k up in Cheshire - down here you need serious money to buy a decent house 500k - 700k, which I guess would buy your whole village including the pub? Why do I have a 320d because Ive had pretty much every other car including most 3 series, couple of 5's (with decent engines including M5) VW's, Audi (couple of them) Citroen (OK I know !!) Even had a couple of trucks (I have an LGV class one) took it for fun so I could buy big toys. Motorbikes; had loads of them until wife said I had to grow up and be a responsible father. Anyway...you're making me loose my thread, so back to my point here. 'Garcon' has had the decency and maturity to apologise.....and he works in IT for goodness sake....so you might have the decency to do the same so we can get on with making decent posts. PS: Sorry 'Garcon' that comment about IT was not meant to stir you into action...just an observation. Plus my 520d is not some "aspirational" company car, its my own car i bought with my own cash and is simply a workhorse, ive got other toys for fun. If your so "highflying" why are you still in a 320d

My house is worth around 900k which is the sorta cash you need to provide to get a big house (6 bedrooms +) with land in cheshire. I dont doubt for one minute that the south is more expensive.. i did grow up and live there for about 20 years after all. So you can feck off calling me a northern monkey
Chav
Don't rise to the bait Alastair Obviously this thread was a tongue-in-cheek observation. And anyone with trouble comprehending humour, banter or wit, should maybe add me and many others to their ignore list. Or just feck off. Certain people criticise this forum for being too Audi-biased, but actually the majority of users on here just like cars - and not everyone can afford to drive their ideal car. highflyin
In the interest of stopping this from getting more boring and tedious than it already is….. I’ll take that latest post as the closest your ego will let you get to a mature apology. So thanks for that “Northern Monkey”. Otherwise we are in clear danger of a ‘mine is bigger than yours” type of conversations, which would be beyond ridiculous Also, to be honest your insults are getting pretty boring and samey now so I can’t really be bothered to read or react anymore. Are you a golfer by any chance?

Chav
highflyin - stop posting shite and trying to wind people up, or feck off! Why should anyone apologise to you? You've been a twat since you've joined. This is a friendly forum, and its mostly banter. But you're too personal - leave Alastair alone, grow up, or feck off! And mods, dont lock this thread please. highflyin - this is a friendly site. Chav
I remember reading a while back about black cars being the most dangerous, and silver ones being involved in the least accidents. Where do we find stats for car brand vs number of accidents (to work out if twattish behaviour is brand orientated, once and for all ) ?
highflyin
Chav We must all be 'Twats' for paying what we do for cars, insuring them, fueling them and in my case even paying the congestion charge to drive em in London. I know I must be 'twat' for taking all that wallet releif ! Seriously, though I think SOME younger A3 drivers are probably giving the majority of Audi drivers a bad image. We have a couple close-by and they're flat out on country lanes, overtaking in not always sensible places. I think the A3 is the next aspirational car after some of the 'Yoof" have had a escort / Astra / Golf. I'm old enough to remember when is was the same with the Escort XR3 and the GTI. Alastair_A3
Black cars the most dangerous? Ive also heard that your more likely to get caught speeding if you drive a red car.. probably an urban myth!
Chav
[ QUOTE ] study of 31,000 crashes in Sweden1 found that black cars were involved in 22.5% of the crashes even though black cars made up only 4.4% of the vehicle population. This means that black cars were 5 times more likely to crash. According to the same study, the safest car colour was pink. [/ QUOTE ]
Chav
stats linky [ QUOTE ] Research has also shown that Red cars are more likely to be found exceeding the speed limit Australians prefer white cars Silver cars hide the most dirt and red cars show the most dirt Silver is a popular colour in Germany Black cars are not popular in hot climates White is considered a sensible car colour and is often used for fleet cars Porche made blue cars because they stood out in the European winters [/ QUOTE ] Interesting eh! highflyin
Thanks for your comments ‘Chav’ exactly my point. All I want is friendly banter but some on here want to govern what I can and can’t say and if I don’t confirm to their version of the truth I get insulted. Not taking that brand of bo%^cks ! even on a chat site. Now on with the banter….
Alastair_A3
Bought my son a 2002 Black Corsa SXI last Jan, He'd written it off 7 months later, added to the statistics i guess! He's got a blue one now.. hopefully safer!
stooH
Red Cars are more likely to get done speeding because Red Robin raises the average for the rest of us. I'd also like to raise an objection to highflyin's comment about youth, Golfs and GTI's. I put forward RR as the proof.
garcon magnifique
Alistair, I hate to dent your hopes but I can statistically show from my own experience that the most likely colour of car both to crash and to get nicked in is blue. highflyin
stooH my wife has a GTI !!! Mind you if you ever get the chance to get in car with her it's like being the co-pilot in a rally car. I don't think I've ever been round a corner that quick in all my life. As she say's though "she's never had a crash" funny how there seem to be quite a few happen behind her though !!

highflyin
'Garcon' I guess under the freedom of information act these stats could be requested from the DOT of whatever they call themselves these days.
