Well got well and truly beat by a focus st on friday, saw someone right up me jacksie so thought i would drop a couple of gears and pull away. I don't think so, i pulled over into the right lane and the st came past very easy as i still had my foot planted.

I presume he had bluefin or something prob running around 280-300bhp. Not normally one for racing but sill gutted.

Still spose he still ends up with a ford though..

LOL....listen m8...

I've had a mk4 R32 that was replaced witha focus ST -tuned to 300bhp+... I could NEVER get all the power down on the road...

I got so fed up I bought a Mk5 R32- a much much better car..

Witha few simple tweeks it will be as fast as the ST and a much better car to drive!! 169144-ok.gif

The mk5 R32 is just pure awesome compared to the ST!

Thanks mate i can stop drowning my sorrows now......maybe just a couple more beers then.

I am thinking of getting more power out of the R but can't really afford to spend much on it, was just on APS website and it states 12-15 bhp and around 12 torques increase, would these really make a difference??? ia am not so sure you would really notice much..

Thanks anyway you have made me feel better..

Ps i could of got a brand new st2 for £15500 as my cousin works for them..still chose the R though that has got to say something.

Given that healthy standard STs can be anywhere from 225 to high 240's bhp and weigh 50kgs+ less than an R32, from a rolling start (thus negating 4wd) there will most likely be naff all in it against a std one. Chipped STs go from around 265 bhp upwards so if chipped it would be expected that you wouldn't keep up in a std R. More so if the ST driver understands how to drive their car (regardless of power output).

Lesson 3 - Shelling out £10k plus or more doesn't guarantee anything and if you pick the wrong 'un, you will look 2" tall and a complete c*ck.

This reminds me of an episode when I had my Honda and a bloke in a Merc SLK decided to show his lady friend how much better his expensive Merc was than that 'cheap' little Jap hatch at the side of him. Oh how we laughed as he was made to look more than a bit daft by a near pensioner who had no idea how to drive my car (I'd had a few beers and was in the passenger seat with a rather large grin - had I been driving I would most likely have let him go but had I chose to react it would have been even more comprehensive as I knew exactly how to get everything out of that car). His lady was somewhat less than impressed as well.

BTW there are ST owners who have had the whole gamut of cars (inc Dobbins & Porsches as well as the more usual German fayre) and they don't have a chip on their shoulder - I would suggest it ain't gonna win you many friends outside of the small number of people on here if you do ROLLEY~14.GIF

People buy different cars for many different reasons. coffee.gif

BTW - It's equally as boring when ST owners (or anyone else for that matter) bleat about the same thing 169144-ok.gif

I agree with most of what you have said and no i do not agree with road racing at all......however are you telling me that you have never done the same thing.......i don't think so, we all have a little kid inside of us at some time

My little dig at the ford brand was just my opinion and as said i did have the choice of spending nearly 10k less than i did and get an asbo, i chose not to for my own reasons i am not saying they are are bad car after all i just got beat by one and prob sometime within the next few years i will get one just because of the cash i will save.

Anyway no harm meant sorry if this post has offended anyone.

TBH, I've seen more Mk5 R32s on the road than Focus STs, so I think the argument about being common is out the window.

The only, and I mean only thing the R32 has over the Focus is that it's 4WD. The turbo kick in the back and the better torque would probably make be buy a Focus over an R32.

But then I would look at the fuel consumption of the Focus and rapidly change my mind again EEK2.GIF

The MK5 R32 is a way better all around car then the ST.

And it is normal to be owned by an ST due to weight and turbo. BUt if you want to be one of the fastes out there and still drive the R32, put some cash into it, drop the missing turbo on top and there you go: rocket man

Not offended and it probably sounded a little more grumpy than was intended - more a case of it's a risky game to play - both in terms of real danger (occasionally) and the element of being made to look a bit daft. The ST as std is quicker than it's given credit for once on the roll and given it's in a very low state of tune, it can be made to go pretty quickly.

Have I ever done it - Most likely when I was younger.

These days I still go quickly where I believe it's ok to do so but an out and out drag, nah. Most importantly, I don't want to, plus am quick enough (and sad enough grin.gif) to know straight away what 'the other car' is capable of:

slower - what's the point apart from little d*ck syndrome

similar - not sure what that achieves confused.gif

faster - a*se kicking ahoy

I do get a bit grumpy about the brand thing and about the silly comments about an R32 being way, way better than an ST.

The brand element is a personal thing because I simply don't get it and probably never will. Something is decent/good/average/manky regardless of who managed to make it and I'd buy anything if I thought the car was the best available given my circumstances.

Is a GT40 a pile of dung.gif because it has a Ford oval on the front?

Is the R32 better - yes of course it is but it's not light years better and we are hardly looking at an R versus a Trabant!

Th R32 isn't THAT good and the ST isn't THAT far away but for some reason some people persist in thinking they are on different planets, partly with good reason in some areas and with seemingly no basis apart from a much larger price tag & a different badge in others.

Money argument - we all have different views on that one and I'm sure we are all happy with our chosen path. However, anyone who might adopt a superiority complex from having paid x rather than y is potentially playing a silly game. Unfortunately, I suppose it will always go on.

That IMO is where we get back to the race bit.

None taken. Enjoy your car - it sounds better than a Feckus. grin.gif

Don't be too hasty. The 5 pot in the Feckus is one of the nicest sounding engines out there, and the standard exhaust note puts a standard R32s to shame. Once fiddled with a bit they sound even better FIREdevil.gif

OK, first off, I think you should be comparing standard cars with standard cars, not modified ones.

You say "The MK5 R32 is a way better all around car then the ST", which is, of course, IYHO.

But better all round in what ways? Performance (no), handling (maybe, but in what circumstances?), consumption (yes), depreciation (no better), space (about the same).

So it's each to their own. Please don't start getting on the bandwagon of "my car is better than yours". If you want to do that, get yourself a Golf GTI tongue.gif

Yes i am with Mook. Lets face it we all buy cars for different reasons and needs. The road is not an accurate or safe place to compare cars. If people are that bothered go to Santa pod.

I have just changed my car and as a result i have been looking at other forums, they are riddled with tales of supercar slaying etc etc. I know this happens a little on here aswell but know where near as much as it does on said forum. Tyresmoke is so refreshing and lets leave it to guys in their chavy Corsa's UHOH7.GIF to debate road raceing. Just my thoughts.

Perhaps at 27 I am now entering 'old' age as I now only go fast when I want/need to and conditions permit. If some twat wants to pull up next to me and race then he can just keep on going. I didn't buy the R based on performance alone, to me its all about build quality and comfort as well, with my last two fords practically falling apart after a few years that was enough of the oval badges for me.

I think people are taking me the wrong way, i agree to leaving chavs to it i just made a comment about how fast the st was and as said earlier we are all guilty of doing this sort of thing sometime.

Don't know what else to say other than each to their own guess..
