The laughs I got at the end of the phone when I tried to sell my 645 and then 550.

Which to be fair both had the "wrong" gearbox IIRC.......... FIREdevil.gif

You remember too much! I bet the 635d kills petrol 6 series' though.

Like an elephant 169144-ok.gif (as in memory, not hung like one....ok, let's move on 169144-ok.gif)

The 635d might hurt the 6 series values but it is all relative. Bought right the petrol car still makes sense and there are plenty of people out there who will never have a diesel engine car. For those folks the petrol will always be the preference until we are all driving round in 15bhp electric cars.......god forbid!

Quite. My parents are looking at the new 3-series coupe and I've been trying to push them towards the 335d, but my dad won't touch anything diesel crazy.gif

If it was me I think I'd want the 335i on an emotional level, but the 335d with the thinking part of my brain engaged.

I think the new 330i makes a lot of sense, quicker than the 335d and just as good on the MPG.

[/ QUOTE ]

Would disagree in the real world.

According to BMW's own figures the 330i auto (comapring like with like as you can only get the 335d in auto) is 6.2 to 60 with the 335d being 6.1. Add to that 320 NM of torque at 2750 rpm for the 330i, versus 580 NM at 1750 for the 335d and I think you would have to agree that the 335d will be a more flexible and efortless drive.

I'm pretty sure that the real world mpg would be slighly higher in the D. Having said that the extra cost of the 335d over the 330i would mean you'd need to travel some miles to get it back...

All horses of courses of course.

Yup. Lovely engine - My partner has it in her Z4 and it is a cracker.

I was supposed to pick up my 335d coupe yesterday, but the dealer has lost the V5 and cant register it until they get the replacement.

They have loaned me a 320i M Sport convertible. What a crap engine - why you'd take that over the 320d I have no idea - it has no torque whatsoever, is slower, and does about 20% worse fuel economy!

At least a christmas round trip to the lakes (circa 1,000 miles of driving) will be on their car, and not mine!

Could the new GT-R be another reason M3's are losing a bit of money?

For £55-60K it looks good on paper.

I know what top gear reckoned and what I know of M3's that the new E92 is fantastic, but I know a lot of guys(with M cars) are now starting to talk about the GT-R.

For the same(ish) money as an E92 M3. What would you guys have?

Sorry to put a Datsun up on the M car board but I'm interested in what you guys think....

The GT-R looks like its going to be a performance bargain.

A while back i did comtemplate a M3 but even if i got £35000 for my 335D Touring ( which i doubt ) i would still need to find £20000 for the new M.

The M3 might be good but its not £20000 better than a 335i or 335D.

And if you don't need 4 seats i would much prefer a used 997 on my drive.

I can't believe anyone would buy a new M3....

the 335s are astonishing - especially when remapped.

Why have a similar performing car for far more cash, thats more likely to be nicked, and makes you look like a twat, etc...

...apart from the lovely burble of course!

But should the 335 really be compared with the M3? A turbo charged engine is never going to be the same imho.

I have the nissan, m3 DSG and CSL all on order however im not a ponce so ill only take one of them! The M3 is almost certainly not going to end up in my garage. I reserve full judgement until i have had it for the weekend and compared it against my csl; however last time i drove it there was very little in the straight line speed, not as quick in the twisties and would be no where near as much fun on track.

I ordered the nissan as soon as someone posted the first pics on here a few months back so will get one of the very first. I love the idea of the simply bonkers performance, its fantastic track speed and simply the fact its a nissan and not a bmw or porka (extra cudos in my book!) - however it is a massive car, bigger than the e92 and certainly on paper the same size as an m6! it will certainly be harder to use all that grunt on my fav twisties with a car that large and wide... secondly the weight of the thing. i have seen the videos and it does stay remarkably flat, but then so does the murcielago, but that doesn't stop it from losing total control when it does reach its limit. Will this car be the same?

then there is the e92 csl. this will almost certainly have the same or similar bhp figures as the nissan (between 450-470) but will not have near the same straight line speed due to 4wd and the f/i. What it have though is rwd, a much better sound track, proper sports seats and similar on track performance (my guess is). If it does all this and manages to be as fun as the current csl then in my book it will have the nissan beat - even if it is the 10-15k more expensive.

Then there is the other option (I know both me and scott are thinking about). What will the price of the 997 gt3's be when the nissan is about to be delivered. Would we prefer that?

So there you go. My perspective as an M3 driver at this present point in time. Its all speculative and i reserve full judgment until i have driven them all. But that's my feeling. 169144-ok.gif

Well I disagree. The m3 is still a fantastic car, and currently, if you are looking for new its the best thing out for the money imho. In fact id take it over the c2s without hesitation. Its a proper rwd performance car with a high output per litre and very high revving. The 335 cant match that. If your not as worried about depreciation or you want the best current bmw this is the car. If i didnt want something a bit more hardcore id have one without a doubt.

Just to add a wee bit to this post. I wouldn't say that M3 prices are collapsing by any means. I spoke to my dealer yesterday and there is still apparently a 9 month waiting list. So still well in demand then

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't listen to him , dealers are ringing around offering M3's to punters so that shows you what the waiting list is like.

Well I'm in the land of the Jock and the dealers ran a mile when I sold mine back in November. Are you building a golf course donaldtramp?

[/ QUOTE ]

Unfortunately not in the league of building golf courses!!

If I was I wouldn't be scrabbling round ebay trying to find a new 19" M3 alloy for my damaged one. I'd probably just have replaced the car. Note the username spelling, it's definitely tramp not trump!!!

I was just relaying what the dealer said to me!!

There are 71 E92 M3'd on Autotrader at the moment. Starting at high 40's going up to high 50's. So I wouldnt say the prices are collapsing, but there are certainly plenty about if you wanted one, there is no need to wait whatsoever.

Dealers are very good are leaving prices 10% too high for some cars, knowing that the final deal will be much lower but it protects the 'image' of the value of the product as the tranaction price will not be all over the BMW used care locator.

The original post I made showed that a dealer was selling a nearly new car at about £6/7k off list so that car was trading at £10k+ off list. When I sold mine (two months ago), the values were very variable with many dealers bidding £10k off list (incl options). Thankfully a few dealers were happy to halve that! 169144-ok.gif
