Sponge
I want to split the cable prior to my Telewest box so that it has 3 leads, instead of 2, i.e. 1 for BB, 1 for decoder, 1 for TV aerial input. Would one of these do it? Ebay Or would one of these be better? Maplin Do I need to be concerned with the 'operating range? Maplin = 5-1000 MHz Ebay = 5 - 2400 MHz
Calm Chris
The cable service arrives on a single co-ax from the street and will have a spliter either in an internal box or under a floor. The spliter will give 1 x BB and 1 x TV signal via a cable TV box, if you had /have multiple TV boxes the spliter for multiple TV boxes can be either a 2/3/4 way at the point for the external service cable or on the single TV box cable after the BB / TV spliter From what I understand the cable still needs de-muxing / converting to get pictures and is NOT able to give a UHF / Digital Freeview signal for a stand alone TV. I'm a bit unclear, what do you think adding a spliter and a 3rd cable will give you without a box and subscription card
Hopsta
They transmit BBC1,2,3 ITV1/2, CH4 and news24 without the need for a decoder
Calm Chris
OK, so what happens when UHF dies and everyone needs Freeview signals? I can see that such splitting would be usefull for the interim, but surely a Digital aerial would be better? As an alternative would it be more prudent to simply run a co-ax from the current Telewest TV box RF port to the 2nd TV and with a IR red eye have the facility to watch all subscribed channels on the 2nd TV
RobK
[ QUOTE ] They transmit BBC1,2,3 ITV1/2, CH4 and news24 without the need for a decoder [/ QUOTE ] They are supposed to be turning that off at some point, according to cableforum.co.uk. RobK
I did that as well, since it was cheaper than paying £75 for the V+ install. The second box is just sitting in the loft!

At the moment it's a bodge-job, but I'd like to tidy up the cabling ready for my new TV, so thought a proper 3-way splitter would be tidier. Calm Chris
Make sure the engineer supplies a HDMi lead- some like to keep them for private stock. The Virgin HD service is carp- althought you do get BBC HD (watched Kill Bill 2 last night)and the on demand section (section 9- other) has a free library that includes Blue planet and the planet earth series. Otherwise the HD box is no better than Sky+ Petty Sky and Virgin are still being stupid with each other, beacuse Sky do not give Virgin Sky sports in HD (tight 4rses)
Hopsta
I don't have an HD set yet other than the 19" in the bedroom. Really wanted it for the recording side of it. I will be calling up Virgin in Feb to see what other deals are available, already on haldf price broadband for 6 months
Calm Chris
Got VIP XL with HD box, normal box, phone unlimited and 20Mb bb for £65 p.m. That includes all films and sports on both boxes. Should be £85, but have a continuing £20 discount due to speed of bb being on average 11Mbit.
Hopsta
I've got XL TV, 4Meg BB and phone for £28, not massively into sports. Main reason i got cable was due to the dire TV reception I get here, Sky was not an option due to lease etc.
