gizze
Because everyone you speak to, bar a few, are waiting for the DCT gearbox. Speak to the dealers, from their list of around 40 people, all bar 3 transfered themselves over to the DCT list when it was announced it would be available as manual only at first. Of course some prefer the manual cars, but if they had been available with DCT from day one I bet there wouldn't be over 70 cars available on the AUC site right now. More people want the DCT, therefore they will be in short supply, so you will see the gap widen in prices between the cars you can get and the one you can't. Woppum
I hope the CSL dosent get the dsg. Not even nissan have seemed to mastered the mechanical feel that SMG or Ferrari's F1 box seems to offer. Feck it, id be happy with the same software as in the current CSL. Think they should at least matach the scud's speed really though.

Personally I hate SMG so I took the manual but the offset clutch in BMWs doesn't do it for me so it went. I'm half thinking of a two year old 997C4S with a manual box once the facelift with DCT comes out. I've never driven a DCT box (even in a TT/A3/Golf) so can't comment but I presume it feels more like a torque converter auto than an SMG box. PS If you want to find out the difference, phone up Maranello to sell 'your' 430, say it is F1 and then after you have got the price, get confused and admit that it has a manual box.....a bit of fun. S3_Scot
the vw dsg is rubbish as it won't let you redline like a manual car. being able to use the last 500rpm of the power curve is the joy of a manual. i have only used the bmw smg once in a carpark in an m5. i was not impressed as the car would creep & throttle without cluch was too sensitive imo. (taking car out showroom, driving 150m to carwash and back before precision reverse between g55 amg and the garage's classic porsche. ) for me the clutch is something that makes driving as you have the ability to fine tune the shifts to the road ahead based upon everything - which a computer just can't do imo. however i will concede defeat on the demand front as you have much better market information than i do. if that means a cheap m3 for me then that's great! S3_Scot
oh and with a clutch, burnouts, j turns and donuts become possible if that's your bag
Woppum
I love the smg. easy rund london, and fantastic on the track. one of the problems for me with a manual is I dont know how to heel and toe. I dont fancy spinning off the track too much so would prefure to keep with an automatic blipper if possible.

Woppum
In the csl you dont need to even use launch control. You just floor it and turn in first to do a burnout. for nice drifts just give the throttle a good stab in second then feather it after. TBH launch control isnt very useful ever... gizze
They have said that the new DCT transmission will be as aggressive as SMG and it will hold the revs just the same as SMG.

[/ QUOTE ] this is one feature of the gearbox that hardly gets used.. prettyy pointless road use wise! [/ QUOTE ] i have used it four or five times I think. Twice on deserted roads, 2-3 times at Santa Pod. It can be effective if done correctly, however you would never do it at the traffic lights a) becasue of the attention it brings, b) becasue if you are going to play with someone at the lights, at the speeds you get up to they are only going to be quicker if they are a plonker - then good ridance. S3_Scot
4wd brings a little less attention as the wheels dont spin. are you using the csl in an urban envronment?
Woppum
Yep, had an R32 before hand and I drove much uicker of the lights with that. However that not becasue of the wheels spinning, you can modulate the throttle well in the csl so wheels dont spin much - its becasue with well over 100db's coming out of its bottom it draws too much attention. I do my fast driving on the back roads, its too much noise to play silly buggers anywhere else.
Alastair_A3
[ QUOTE ] Don't buy the M3 - I kept mine two weeks, crap fuel range, tight seats (won't bother you coming from a 335d) and no auto (from your perspective). The 535d I have is a better car for me, just as fast in the real world, easy to drive and no need to stop every 200 miles. I'm sure the 335d suits you better. PS Part of the reason I got out of the M3 was that the DCT will kill residuals for the manual car in three months time. Ditto will happen with the 911 when Porsche bring out their DCT later this year. [/ QUOTE ] I disagree.. i think there are enough 911 purists out there to keep manual car resdials high
Merlot
I hope you a right but look at the number of 911's in the SE that have the awful autobox.
