Golfer
[ QUOTE ] My 535d is an April 07 build so has most of the LCI changes to economy/emissions but apparently 'more' was being added from September 07 production onwards. Any idea what John? [/ QUOTE ] Mine also got the LED'S but not the "Stop-Start". The new wiring system came in @ september 2007.
edo
Do the new 35d's have stop start? I thought that was just on the 20d?

Merlot
I thought that it is not being added to autos?
edo
Certainly the manual 320d which had it worked on being in neutral and depressing the clutch etc...
gizze
'35d's will not get start stop cause they are only available in auto. The 5er also got the new drive by wire gear box (one that looks like a joystick) which locks up the torque convertor far quicker and is meant to save around 20% mpg. Merlot
Indeed. Tis a nice gearbox - I've started driving it in Sport the last few days (535d) and can't believe how much faster it feels.

edo
Just an update. Still makes me chuckle every time I put my foot down.... And even doing that, after 4,000 miles I am on 38.9mpg. (Current tank 420 miles, 120 miles left and 40.9). Car has done 9,200 and still doesnt want a service for 10,000 miles!
Biscuits
My 06 535d averages 30mpg. On a run round the M25 yesterday I drove frugly, not going over 80 and the JOURNEY COMPUTER that I reset before leaving the zoo was reading 42.9mpg as I arrived home. It IS possible to get goo mpg out of the old '35d engine, but you do need a light foot. This morning totally ruined this figure, starting from cold the needle wouldn't go above 20mpg till it warmed up, by the time I was at the office the average had dropped to 32.8mpg I'm happy with the 'new' performace upgrade and anthing 30mpg or higher is VERY good in my opinion. I have 996 performance, 5 seats a big boot and 30+ mpg...
edo
Is the 5 a little heavier than the 3? Also I think the 07 335d engine is a slighly different one to the 5 series (pre 07)?
gizze
The LCI 535d is more like the 335d and that will give around 20-25% better mpg, it is a very impressive engine, tuned it will give 350bhp, 0-60mph in 5 seconds and return 40mpg on a run easily. Merlot
30 mpg out of my DMS LCI 535d. God knows what the BMW guy who did the 42mpg run was doing.
gizze
[ QUOTE ] Guy, you never got anywhere near that! ;-) [/ QUOTE ] No, not in that car. I used to get around 32mpg on a run, as soon as the road opened.....well you have to really!! But the LCI (facelift) definitely gives about 20-25% more on a run, if you sit at 80mph you can see around 40mpg from it, very impressive. You bored of it yet?? Let me when you are.
