My HP lappy is running Vista and when I check for updates it says that there are none avaialable. Any ideas why it cant find the update?

There's quite a lot of reasons why it doesn't appear as an automatic download: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343

It didn't appear on my HP laptop so I had to download the full version at 460Mb smashfreakB.gif

Laptop seems to work a little quicker but it still hasn't fixed the slow file copy/move for me.

Mine allowed me to download through Windows Update and yet had the Realtek driver issue so it isn't foolproof.

Can report that after I sorted out the sound everything is working fine. No Noticeable improvements other than it pickup up my wireless net connection a lot quicker on bootup.

Just installed SP1 last night. No breakage that I know of yet.

Half Life 2 runs without stuttering now, which is good, but Bioshock has gone back to "This game is currently unavailable" after I managed to get it running in a window.

Overall a fairly painless install so far, and it only took about 25 mins start to end IIRC.

I tried the Lost Coast previously, and half way through, the AI stopped (which also seems to happen in Bioshock when I had that working briefly), so I need to retry that.

The 3rd-party Minerva maps (excellent standalone episodic set) also worked pretty well, and the graphics quality was outstanding with every single option set to maximum, and the (bad) stutter I had prior to SP1 has gone, and it now seems very smooth and playable.

I saw that; interesting stuff.

I wonder if there's much difference between Explorer copy and xcopy? When I had 450GB of files to get off a USB2 hard drive to my data array, I know which one looked like it would do the job before the end of time.

It wasn't explorer.

It might be the drivers, if I remember rightly SP1 won't show up until you've got a full set of WHQL drivers installed. You could manually create a restore point and install those drivers that are pending, and see if it shows up after that?

Sounds possible, there is some issue with badly written driver INF files where the driver couldn't reinstall itself with SP1, so may be they've prevented you updating with problem drivers.

That said, I just used the redistributable download to update, got it off MSDN over a month ago crazy.gif

Got my laptop just over a week ago. Any possibility it could already be integrated in the installed version of Vista?

The alternative is obviously to just wait. Hardly an earth-shattering update particularly for a laptop unless you do loads of file copying. Rather that than run into problems with that driver which was preventing SP1 from being made available in the first place...

Yeah, agree. Lappy is running lightening fast so not really fussed to be honest. 169144-ok.gif
