byron13
Thanks for that Gordon, Funny thing is that the renewal says £300 but when I try to do it on-line it tells me it now costs £400. Will try the post office and see if I can get away with £300 just to make me feel better !!
Cuprabob
Your reminder is printed out months in advance hence the price being wrong. Although not sure why it is wrong because it was announced in the 2007 budget that road tax for band G cars was going to be £400 this year. The post office will charge you £400 as well. byron13
Why would they print them off months in advance ? makes no sense. Worth a try though at the post office, guess the counter staff have to look it up ? or I wonder if they have a computer system?
Mook
All post offices now have a computerised system for car tax. But if it's £400, it's £400. Or buy a more economical car...
Dave
How many people actually plan to pay their car tax?.. i know I don't.. and £400 is a lot to find for anyone out of a months expenses... the problem with putting more and more stealth taxes up is that more and more will default. Mook
So what happens when you don't pay your car tax, then, Dave? Yes, stealth taxes etc. PITA. And I want to move abroad, etc. but if your car isn't taxed and it's used on the road, it's not insured...
Dave
What i meant is, how many people money aside to pay their car tax, for example.. on a monthly basis? My tax is only £165 (i think!)
byron13
Not so bothered by the £400 but just a bit of a kick in the teeth when I got the bill showing £300 and I only do about 3000 miles a year. I am with Dave on this, more and more people will not bother paying it rather than buy a bloody prius or other such car. I just see this as a tax on those who can afford to pay rather than a green tax, tell me the extra dosh goes into a pot to pay for alt energy research or whatever then fine but it does not it just gives darling and dreary brown more money to throw waste on red tape and welfare!! It may push out 335 g of stuff but as I only do about 2000 miles a year it makes a mockery of the Tax as a sub 200 g of stuff doing 10000 miles per year pollutes much more!!! It's an ownership tax IMHO and this is after the tax on earnings to pay for it and the VAT to buy it !!!
Riz
Your right! Everything seems to be money money money with this government! We pay taxes from our earnings We pay vat on goods we buy We pay council tax We pay road tax We pay fuel duty We pay duty on other items like booze and fags Anything else? Why doesnt the government just make one tax! one figure and thats it! One word to describe em t@ssers Riz
