RedRobin
There is more than one type of GTI enthusiast imo. ....Agreed. I guess I hang out more with the type of car enthusiast who prefers a more hardcore sporty ride. It's easy to forget or ignore those who don't feel the same. The Mk6 demo GTI which my VW dealer had allocated has already been sold before it arrived - To a guy who already has a Bentley and a Porsche Cayman, the GTI is for his wife. So it's doubtful if she's the type of enthusiast I know and indeed doubtful if she's an enthusiast at all
Snoopy
^Exactly Robin your hanging out with the modifiers does there views on whats hard or harsh or steering feel or anything the only ones?, i say no as each persons view of feel is far far different. I have been into modifying myself in the past so know were your coming from (*im even still into the SQ audio side!!) The reason the mk5 has done so well is down to its alround ability compared to rivals imo. If they had built a megan renault sport cup/r26.r they would not have sold as well. RedRobin
^^^^ Again, agreed - What's a hard ride or not can be very subjective. My VW dealer was only telling me this morning that another customer with a Mk5 GTI thought that Goodyear Assymetrics gave too hard a ride and he'd gone back to Conti's. They were only on 17" Monza's too! My original point though was that I welcome the option NOT to have what I think is the gimmicky ACC suspension on the Mk6 and then Mook jumped in with his usual style of comments. My opinion about ACC is based on driving the new Scirocco. I've got the new 2009 S4 V6 to play with next week and it'll be interested to see what suspension settings that has if any. It's got the 7-speed DSG and that'll be interesting too.
Snoopy
I agree i like it as an option too rather than standard but my reasons are because im looking at it from a different angle. Those are the replacment costs/availablity of the shocks after they start to go 'soft' over years/miles. Also the reliabilty issues it may have due to its added complexity may be an issue many years down the line. Edited May 9, 2009 by Snoopy

Mook
....If you don't understand what I posted, it doesn't make it sh*te.I am genuinely surprised you didn't understand that sh!t [and it's also a bit worrying]. F*ck, Robin, you make me laugh the more you post on here. And you commented above that I was condescending I understood exactly what you said and I think you really do post a load of sh*te sometimes. You also post some non-sh*te sometimes as well, just to balance out the karma. If you read back to the top of the page, I said "One of the reasons the Mk5 GTI has been so successful is because it's understated and it can be driven like a regular car, which is what probably 95% of owners want. The minority of owners want to bolt on bits to make it quicker or tart it up to look like a chav-mobile, but, if it's as hard a ride as the Mk4 R32 in standard guise, it'll put off a shed load of new customers. It's no Focus RS and it shouldn't be marketed as one." 95% is the number and I think I'm wrong at that. It should probably be a lot higher. Mk5golfgti.co.uk has got 548 members according to its site stats, probably all of whom are interested in modifying their cars in whatever way, which is great, but it's not really representative of the total Mk5 GTI sales in the UK is it? So, to go back to my original point, if the Mk6 GTI is as harsh a ride as the Mk4 R32, it'll put of a shed load of potential customers. Mine arrives next week for a couple of days, so I'll let you know.

I've not ordered one yet - I'm getting a standard one for a couple of days to see what it's like. I've then got a fully loaded one for two hours to compare them. Yes, that would be interesting to see what you think, especially of the fully loaded car. Although within 2 hours, could you really get to put it to the test? When you're driving it Mook, just think you're at the Ring
