Any news on the MkVI GTI?

My German's not too good so I can only look at the pictures. There's a nice line up of cars in this article but the Golf does look very much like a premium product. VW always seem to pull this off. There's just an air of class about their cars. I'm liking the grey.

i cant see what all the fuss is about personally, looks like something off of pimp my ride to me.

if i recall, you could get the mk3 and 4 GTI in various metalic shades, none of which aged that well .

i shall be changing my present GTI next year for the new GTI or an R version if the prices are not to steep, but will be sticking to red, white or black. They are the only colours that work for me......

Also interesting to see that the Wörthersee GTI has new LED rear lights. Why haven't VW fitted these to the new Mk6 GTI? It was rumoured the Mk5 would see LEDs at some point but it didn't happen and seems strange that they wouldn't put them on the MK6.

It helps to make the GTI different from the other models in the range. So do we think they are saving them for the Golf R (R20/GTI-R)...?

Good to see Xenons are now available on the GTI and standard on the Scirocco R.

Also on the interior front I'm really keen to see/feel just how different the MK6 Golf interior is and how it compares with the Scirocco R (which is based on the MkV).

When the time comes to change my Golf (Sept 2010) I have a feeling i'm going to be torn between the Scirocco R and the Golf R... Love the exterior of the Scirocco R a great improvement over the standard car, but i'm hopeful that the Golf R will also be a step up from the standard Golfs.

The Mk6 GTI is receiving good reviews but IMO it needs to look more different from the MK5 and other Mk6s, especially with the GTD now released as well.

So wish list/predictions for the Golf R:

- Standard xenons

- LED daytime running lights

- Deeper front bumper

- LED smoked rear lights

- Gloss black wing mirrors and interior trim

- Blue and white instruments

- Standard 18"s with optional 19"s

And I think it will be a 2.0 Turbo with 265bhp and 2WD as the Scirocco, or does anyone have evidence to suggest a 2.5 5-cyl and 4WD...?

Right, I've seen, felt and touched and driven a red (not my choice) Mk6 GTI with ACC today. More this weekend.

Very, very good car and the interior is a mile ahead of the Mk5. Pretty much the same look and feel, but the quality is more that of the Audi A4 in terms of the plastics +++

....So where is your review!!?

Would love to know how the ACC shapes up under some spirited driving.

....I know someone who has both a Pirelli GTI (without ACC) and a new Scirocco with ACC. He has been 'testing' the two cars and specifically ACC. He wishes that the ACC was an option on the 'Rocco which he could have left off.

Because he says:

"I've worked out the rational to why i prefer the Pirelli (discounting power) and its linked to the ACC, whilst it tweaks the dampers it also adjusts the assistance on the steering.

GTI feels very fluid as its well weighted so great feedback from hands with reasonable ride comfort, the Roc needs to be in Sport, however, damping is not as sorted as the standard GTI on certain surfaces.

Issue is when you play with the damping, i.e. I soften it off in the wet to induce a bit more roll and stick it into Comfort, doing this lightens the steering.

Other thing linked to this is the seat bolsters are the gti or less forgiving so you feel slightly better braced.

Whilst the bods will argue the toss about centre of gravity and tyre widths (all be it the soft pirellis on the gti are great) it all boils down to confidence the driver has in regards to what he feels through the seat of his pants and arms which dictates what you get out of it.

VW have seen the light putting it as an option on mk6, idiots for putting it on Scirocco R as standard and hopefully its an option on Golf R, if it just tweaked the damping it would be a better system (less is more).

So its does work and whilst good, is also flawed.

It was the series of roundabouts round by me that threw it up as I took them for a spin back to back, alas such comments are lost on the majority of the Rocco boys, however, a few ex mkv owners have twigged"

I have to say that personally I'd much rather be able to use aftermarket suspension with more options than have to have a car manufacturer's commercial compromise. Even the S4 on Dynamic setting wasn't quite hard enough for my liking.

Yes, I guess it is subjective - We each have our own preferences which contribute to our abilities and confidence. I feel very unconfident in a vehicle which feels soft to drive - It's one of my limitations if you like.

So, I prefer the new Mk6 GTI to have the option to leave out ACC.

Tell you what, the more I look at the MKVI, the more it's growing on me. Yes, I was a staunch supporter of the "It's-only-a-MK5.5-brigade" and yes, it is more of a 5.5 than a true step up in design, but I swear it's growing on me more and more; particularly in that firespark red. I will hold off for the R20, but will probably be a full blown admirer of the design by that comes into production.
