RedRobin
.... Personally, I think it's pretty academic, Stoo. It's milliseconds on paper and car manufacturers' mpg claims are always a bad joke! Example: Audi claim around 30 mpg on their latest S4. I got 19.4 mpg over 5 days on all types of roads. I reckon the Mk6 GTI numbers are as near as damn it to the Mk5 GTI. carnell
Anyone know where the front indicators are on the front of Mk6 Gti with Xenons, looks like they are on the high beam lens ? are the drls on that lens aswell or is that just on the standard golf 6 ??? Tarmac_Terrorist
From those pics i'd say they are within the high beam lense. Does the MK6 have 'dual xenons' like the mkv?

Does the MK6 have 'dual xenons' like the mkv? i dont know ? but on the standard 6 golf thet light is always seems to be on on the 1s that i have seen on the road but have not seen any Xenons yet, just looked on my invoice and it says Bi Xenons
Paul
Bi-xenon, or dual xenon as mentioned is just a single lamp/projector, with an electrically operated shutter to change the beam pattern from dipped to high. The bulb itself just stays on. Dependent on design, sometimes this is backed up by another lamp for "flashing" as xenons dont usually warm up and get to full colour quick enough for flashing from off, but the high beam shutter can be used when the lamp is on. Tarmac_Terrorist
I never realised that. I thought the MKV had like twin lamps in each unit plus a seperate 'flasher' bulb.
RedRobin
^^^^ That is why when I flash my Xenons via the stalk, my DRL's stay on. But if I use the manual circular switch and quickly alternate on/off the headlights, my DRL's switch off as my Xenons switch on etc and I (others) see a cool Xmas tree effect. An oncoming Police car gave me the thumbs up when I did this to its driver the other day. I wonder if the Mk6 DRL's are switched to automatically go off as headlights switch on (as they should do if strictly following EC regulations). Snoopy
I've actually just answered my own question by looking at the VW site, intriguingly the DSG time is the same as the manual which begs the question have they:a) somehow slowed down the gear change of the DSG to make it more slow and clunky b) retrained everyone in the world how to make super-fast-quicker-than-the-eye-can-blink gear changes c) got their facts wrong on the website (again) Anyone know? And they're quoting worse fuel efficiency for the DSG but I thought for the Mk5 it was better? Its quoted as 6.9 for both in the broucher. Gearing has an effect. Weight has an effect. The DSG gearing is lower than the manuals and it is heavier. These are also two of quite a few reasons that in REAL life the DSG is about 3MPG worse, from regular personal experience, than the manual in the mk5 and why im glad to see VW has actually stopped lieing about one factor of the DSG box. stooH
Always thought that was a good selling point of the DSG and now it's gone, at least it's not slower
Mook
Well VW do need it easy - at least they can now say the Mk6 GTI is the fastest car in the world, regardless of manual or auto
RedRobin
Always thought that was a good selling point of the DSG and now it's gone, at least it's not slower ....I think that by now DSG/S-tronic has been well experienced by enough drivers such that other factors are less important. I don't care whether DSG is more fuel thirsty nor fractionally slower - It's an extremely useful and enjoyable box of tricks to drive and especially as DSG remaps are now becoming available which make it even more like a true Manual. Would I now buy another car without DSG or S-tronic or SST or equivalent? - No way! It's a no-brainer!
TwoSheds
Going back to a manual now would be like going back to the dark ages imo..
Snoopy
I so wish VW would make the GTI in that Metallic red colour of the worthersee 09 , GTI treffen 2009 car. I know i would then place an order and buy one if they did no question about it! The more i have thought about it. The colour choice at the present time is mainly plain borring red, white, black or shades of gray in reality to me anyway or colours i don't think work on the mk6. Come on VW we are not all john Mager in the uk give us something else but Gray PLEASE. Geoff. Edited June 3, 2009 by Snoopy
silentandy
I saw my first MK6 GTI the other day. It was in silver and to be honest I was a bit underwhelmed by it's appearance. It was a bit bland, certainly not the best colour to go for IMHO. Like Snoopy I would love one in that red colour. Got a test drive promised soon, my local stealer sold their demo before I got chance to even see it!
Muppetboy
The MkV also looks naff in silver though to be honest...
carnell
I went for a test drive today in the mk6 Gti, totally more refined drive than the Mk5 and very quite inside until you open the windows and boot it, got a really nice booming sound on up and down changes, The car was a Dsg without acc suspension and felt very solid and very well planted in the bends no body roll at all, I think the salesman has left his fingernails in the dashboard ;-) cos i really put it through its paces, new steering wheel feels great and perfectly weighted and the interior and clocks is 100% better than in the mk5, the only thing that i think lets it down is those exhausts they look like a after thought and stick out too far, but no doubt Milltek will sort that out oh and the colour it was silver 5 door didnt look anything special, overall i am very pleased with the new car. I have ordered 3 Door in Tornado Red,18" Monza shadows, DSG, Bi Xenons, Bluetooth Phone prep, Lux Pack, Winter Pack, Rcd 510 Touch Screen stereo, Rear view camera,Cruise Cont, tilt/slide Sunroof, The waiting game begins, roll on the 1st Sept
Muppetboy
Just shows how crap VW dealers are... always had the car serviced and MOT'd at the same dealer where I bought it just over 3 years ago and not had a bloody call about a test drive or anyfink! Monkeys!
Tarmac_Terrorist
Am I the only one who is not fussed about that colour? Striking it is, but I don't think it is a colour which will age well and most owners will allow the paint to go dull after 12 months and it would lose that metallic pop and dazzle to become like a normal flattish burnt red colour. I think it's a colour which would need maintenance to look decent. I agree with Geoff though that VW colour range is a bit wooden. How about a metallic pearl white, greens and new blues too. Muppetboy
I think it's a colour which would need maintenance to look decent. Perhaps I'll order it in that red and hire you and JC to "detail" it on alternate weeks!
peugeot6
Re: The Golf colours, why not go for the Rocco in Viper Green, I did and am loving it. The MK V GTI I had in Tornado Red was great though. Are VW trying to be the New BMW by having 300 shades of grey in their colour range?
RedRobin
Re: Are VW trying to be the New BMW by having 300 shades of grey in their colour range? ....I think VW are trying to up their Golf game to better match their Audi offerings. Excellent quality but some Audi stuff is very conservative.
njc851
everybody's different though eh? we just ordered a mk6 in silver, looked wicked in the showroom on 18s. Does anybody know if the satnav in the car will be a plug and play effort, where we can get them off ebay for 400 pounds in the near future, or have vw made them less user friendly?
