AudiPartner
So I bought a new pc, downloaded itunes, plugged in my ipod to stick some more tunes on it and it wouldn't have it! It told me that my ipod is already associated with another version on itunes (on my old pc presumably) and therefore I couldn't do anything. To move forward, it said I would have to lose all the songs currently on my ipod. Surely I should be able to put the songs currently on my ipod in to the new itunes on my new PC? Mook
Nope, its not the way iTunes works. You have to copy ALL of the music from your old PC to your new one, then drag it into the library, then plug in your iPod and it'll then wipe all the "old" music associated with your "old" library and write all your "new" music onto it. It's Apple's way of stopping you writing all your tunes to your iPod, then lending your iPod to your mate and he/she copies all the songs onto his/her iTunes library. It's a right royal pain in the a*se, although there's probably some freeware widget you can download to make it easier...
Turrican
There's a free bit of software called iDump, it lets you copy all music from an ipod.

AudiPartner
So I've got my tunes off using iDump. Now how do I get them all on to iTunes??
Mook
If they're MP3s, just drag them onto iTunes and it'll stick them all in the right place
AudiPartner
bugger, it seems to have saved them as .m4p files!!
Mook
M4P is fine as well - it's iTunes preferred format and what iTunes on your old computer will have copied them onto your iPod as - just drag and drop them
AudiPartner
Cheers Mook, all sorted! I now have another question, posed by a friend. She wants to buy another 'pod. Presumably itunes won't allow two ipods?
CarMad
Yes it will, not sure how many but it can have multiple iPods. I use 2 on one of mine no problems and just use a playlist to sync one of them and the other sucks the entire library. Only time you get problems is plugging them into more than one PC.
