My 2006 Black Magic Skoda Octavia vRS

I can see the tumbleweed in this forum, so I thought I'd dust down the cobwebs and post some pics of my most recent car :D

I bought the car in December with 30,000 miles on it for the bargain price of £8,000. It's a 2.0TFSi with 200PS (a la Golf GTi) as standard.

The car has few factory specified options, but the ones it did have I thought were useful in the most part - Xenons, rear park assist, TPMS and the 18" Zenith alloy upgrade from the standard 17". Soon adter I picked it up I added a Maxidot dashboard (MFD or "full DIS" for drivers of other VAG marques) and factory bluetooth.

Other modifications have been done on the performance side, namely a couple of remaps and a full Milltek system, including downpipe and sports cat.

Most recently I added a set of BBS CH 19" wheels bought from a forum member (thanks Martin +++) and as I'd put them on I decided to give the car a celebratory wash and post some pictures up, so for your viewing pleasure....

It also definitely needs lowering, especially on the 19s, why do they make the "sports" model so high?!

What do you think?

I've been really curious about your VRS after seing it in your sig, especially as to what the maxidot dashboard was. What an excellent choice of car, and I would deffently have it over a B7 A4. How do you compare it with your old A4? I bet it goes to with a remapped 2.0T. What does the Miltek sound like, I heard a standard 2.0T Audi and it sounded good, and I don't usually like four cylinder sound.

Excellent car by the way Ben +++

Comparing it to the A4 is a difficult one... I loved that car! I recently drove a B6 A4 that a forum member bought around to be remapped and it's strange, straight away the solid feel and sense of occasion was apparent. The Skoda doesn't have the solid feel like the Audi does, although the changes I'm making to the car suspension wise will hopefully change that a little. It kind of does have a sense of occasion when the car's all clean etc but it still doesn't feel like my old Audi. I think full leather as opposed to half leather and also more supportive seats would help here to make me feel more "in" the car than "on" it, if you know what I mean.

As for the engine and noise.. the engine is great. It's a bit boring in that it doesn't have the lag and character of the tuned 1.8T.. but it is faster and much more linear. As for the noise it makes a fantastic superchargeresque whistle/whine when giving it some, and although inside the cabin it's pretty quiet the Milltek does sound good from outside/with the windows down. I'm going to get someone to drive past me a few times so I can hear it for myself!

Know what you mean about the solid feeling. My A4 with 177K felt indestructible, yet the newer Passat feels flimsy and you seem to sit on top of the seats rather than in them. It is growing on me, but when practicality doesn't dictate the size of car I need, I will be straight back in an Audi.

Hey Ben, do you reckon you should lower it then...? :roflmao:

Well it was going to be lowered today in preparation for a 'ring trip next week however I haven't been able to do that due to being stuck in a cast and unable to walk! I'm hoping that I'll still be able to get it done as my mate at AV Performance is going to try and get over to pick the car up and still get it sorted out for me before the off. Now that's what I call service +++

Cheers Drewcam, long time no see old friend! How are you keeping, and what's your steed these days?

Yeah keeping well mate. I can never thank you enough for your support when i had that rough spell in hospital +++

The last car you seen me in was the S4 but that has since gone and the money spent on doing up a house :(

I'v always had a van and currently do on avarage 1000 mile per week in an 08 Dispatch.

The other half has got a 57 plate Golf GT Sport 170 TDi. Nice car and is very capable on a run with the boys

It's very suprising what it can achieve to be honest +++

Like i said earlier, your car looks fab. What have you had in between from when i saw you last ?

No thanks required mate, good to see you around +++ I take it you are "normal" now health wise? Or as normal as you can be?

Your S4 was a stunning car, I know it was hard for you get rid of it. I like the Golf.. not driven a 170TDi but heard good things.

I'm trying to think what I've been driving since I last saw you... I had a Mk4 Golf GTi, an Audi S2 Avant (which I still have), a VW Bora TDi and now the vRS. Can't bring myself to sell the S2 although that was the plan when I bought the vRS!

Nice selection there Ben. The S2 sounds fab is there any pics on here anywhere ?

As normal as i could be i expect. Still got a huge scar down my side from the opp about 6 inches long. There is another scar from where a tube went inside me close to my arm pit that give me some problems now and again.

It just gets itchy and sore from time to time so i suspect i shall have to go see about it one day.

Just don't get the time to go to the docs :ffs:

Feckig love it Ben. Looks good with the Scumball decals and lights :grin:

Anyway back to the Octavia........

Whats it like trying to keep a black car looking nice and shiney like in the pics ?

My very first E reg Cavalier was black and it was a nightmare to keep looking clean.

With a quick 2BM wash and speed detail it doesn't come up too badly. That's what I'd done before those pics were took.

It's in need of a proper detail (I was going to be doing that over the bank holiday at the end of May, but now my foot's messed up I might struggle!) but once it's all sorted I'm hoping with a couple of good coats of wax that it's going to be pretty easy to keep clean. Well, as easy as black can be anyway..
