AZURES3
I have had my S3 since December 2006 and it was delivered with Conti Sport Contact 2 tyres. For the majority of the life of these tyres was spent with town and backroad driving so they gave up at 14,000 miles. They had been rotated at 7000 miles. I replaced them with the F1 Asymmetric after rave reviews in Evo etc, I did suffer the initial 200 mile obvious bedding in period but that applies to all tyres. After 11,000 miles of now mostly motorway driving, I went to have them rotated. The fronts were at 5.5mm and the reear at 6.5mm. They moved front to back etc and at this rate I should see another 10,000 miles our of these tyres. Have to say I have been very impressed with them on the S3 although they are noisiers that the Conti's. Excellent grip in all weathers and they look nice too. My only concern with them are the mutliple reviews lately of people suffereing from faulty tyres that have had to be replaced and sudden poor performance from 3mm onwards. Time will tell but I normally replace tyres before 2mm anyway. AZ
nordberg
Had these on my A4. Loved them. I did just under 10k miles with them and they looked as good as new when I sold the car. Great performance too...
Cuprabob
My fronts have now done 29k miles and they at around 3mm. I love them
Merlot
Wasn't the concern due to F1's made in China? I have them on the rear axle of a RWD car (fronts have F1 GSDs) and all four tyres say 'Made in Germany' on them which I presume helps.
criadqui
I like this sort of thing, ideal for leaving in town when getting drunk and not worrying about, thats why I love my old Subaru Legacy, don't care where I leave it or what I put in it (ideal for tip runs), everyone needs an old car to bash around in! RedRobin
.... I'm on my second set of 4 now. My first were a pair on the rear axle with F1 directionals on the front - This resulted in random ESP interferences due to differences in tyre wall stiffness and the ESP thinking I needed saving. Apart from extremely varied road driving I've done fast road drives in Europe in appalling wet conditions plus 2 weekends on the Nordschleife and a full and wet track day at Spa with an instructor in the passenger seat who commented that he thought I was the only person with appropriate tyres on the day. Professionally setup suspension plus Quaife diff plus F1 assymetrics = Great all-weather handling. By far the best tyre on my GTI so far. But bear in mind that different tyres can suit different cars better than others. :notworthy:
Scotty
RR - do you have spacers fitted or have you changed the offset etc on your wheels?
RedRobin
RR - do you have spacers fitted or have you changed the offset etc on your wheels? ....No spacers - I'm somewhat anti the use of spacers - I don't trust them. My oem BBS Monza 18's are ET51 and my OZ Alleggerita 18x8 are ET48. We've had to fractionally adjust my VWR-KW-V3 coilovers to stop rubbing when driving hard. I transferred the same Goodyear F1 Assymetrics to the LeggyRita's. Hope This Helps
shark_90
RR, are your KWs made specifically for VWR or are they the normal KW setup?

I only asked as I know Audi were having weird complaints about ESP behaviour and they found that is was generally caused by people fecking about with the offset. I doubt your difference would have much impact.
RedRobin
RR, are your KWs made specifically for VWR or are they the normal KW setup? ....Hi Ben! Made up specifically. KW Germany are one of VWRacing's official sponsors in the VW Cup series (UK) and they have what they call a "Technical Partnership". As a result, my particular 'VWR-KW-V3' coilovers have a spring rating as VWR ordered specifically for my car and there was also something else 'bespoke' but I don't recall exactly and I don't want to get it wrong. So mine are slightly different from the normal retailed KW-V3's - Not necessarily better, but better suited to my use perhaps. If I hadn't got an ongoing great relationship with VWR (who only use KW), I would have also considered the Bilstein equivalent which are easier to self adjust. However, I don't need to alter my setup regularly and VWR know what they are doing much better than I do! Btw, you (Shark Performance) have recently been spoken about on the Mk5GolfGTI.co.uk forum (Simon's Octavia?) - I posted that I knew you as a fine fellow who could be trusted

I had several chats with Goodyear Technical and we came to conclusion about the tyre wall stiffness difference between F1 Assyms on rear axle and F1 Directionals on front axle. It completely stopped as soon as I had F1 Assyms on both axles. The only difference my ET made was arch rubbing but only under very hard tight cornering - Now sorted by adjusting the ride height up just a tiny fraction. Maybe I should ask VWR if they'd be interested in a Tehnical Partnership with Shark Performance? :D
RedRobin
.... Superchips are another of their official sponsors. Practical proximity of Buckingham to Milton Keynes is a factor. I'm a Revo fanboy though and have been testing their DSG software, now just being publicly launched.

It seems a bit OTT to dismiss ALL Goodyear tyres as a result of one tyre version's bad experience, or are there more bad experiences you've had? Having previously had bad experiences with O2 and British Airways, I won't use any services of either company in the future, no matter what they are, how good they are or how much other people swear by them. I would suggest it's no different for Mollox with Goodyears.

Andrew
Generally I reckon the Assys are ok. I have them all round but the fronts need replacing. They do seem to have gone "off" quite noticeably nearing their end of life - much more than the F1s I used to run. Might go Michelin next time I need a complete set though. It seems a bit OTT to dismiss ALL Goodyear tyres as a result of one tyre version's bad experience, or are there more bad experiences you've had? Depends on your viewpoint, I suppose Robin. Thing is, with tyres, its my life they're meant to be looking after. Have a look HERE for no shortage of worryingly consistent anecdotes, admittedly regarding the previous gen Eagle GSD 3 spec tyres. Just how far do I have to go though? Do I need to actually spin in a straight line on a crowded motorway, or actually sail right over a mini-roundabout and into something? My experiences (on two different sets of tyres remember) absolutely scared the bejesus out of me and on that basis, I don't feel like giving Goodyear another chance. Its just not worth the risk in my mind. Out of interest, where have you seen a video of my driving?
