Where is the clutch on the B8 A4?

Got out of my TT and into a B8 A4 loaner and put my left foot down to press the clutch and got the footrest. Kept doing it as the clutch is half way to the driver's window. Why have Audi made such a basic (BMW) error with the new A4? Designed to get people into STronic?

God you're anti BMW!! :D

BMW are nothing like that, they have had offset pedals, but the layout of the seat and steering wheel always accounts for it. The B8 has the transmission tunnel moved over for LHD and not they have not bothered to move it over for RHD, in fact it is still pushed over into the right hand side footwell.

The steering wheel is still central and so you end up twisting from below your waist to the right, then you have to twist from your knee to the left again to make sure you can press the clutch without hitting the footrest.

It is a ridiculous design and to me makes a manual car a complete no go.

I posted a review of my week with a B8 s-line avant here.....

It seems the first thing anyone (including myself) notice about the RHD B8 A4 is the pedal offset. It worried me but apart from the very first test drive I honestly haven't noticed it.

It could do with a little more room around the foot rest for sure.

Honestly some people are just looking to pick fault. A4 B8 is the most comfortable car I've ever owner, cars including a 55 plate A4 sline and 04 plate A4 sport.

Pedal position aint a problem for 95% including me, I have owned the car for a year, I do NOT notice any offset, I just get on with enjoying the drive, for me the pedals have plenty of space and are well positioned. I dont catch the brake when pressing the clutch like I did when I tried a certain other german brand. I get no aches and pains and can travel 250 miles or so to scotland in a single stint and its a breeze.

Seems like lots of people are coming round to the B8 now, tons of em about and quite rightly so.

So you're comparing it long term with, a B7 A4 and a B6 A4??

Hmmm, so a real mix of other marques to give a really fair comparison with then?? :P

The new A4 is far more comfy, but it is annoying that Audi don't really give a feck about the UK market still.

I've driven other 'marques' extensively spending 3 months deliberating a new car - each has plusses and minuses...5 series, 3 series, passat, c class (driven them all on multiple occassions)....A4 came out top for me personally. Probably biased though so there you go!!

Not really that well qualified a statement is it? It's obviously a noticed issue, or people wouldn't be commenting on it.

I still don't get the B8 A4 or S4. Love the A5/S5, but not the A4 - it's just too bland and, given the choice between the same model of B7 and B8, I'd still choose the B7.

Given the choice between a B8 S4 and a 335i Touring, I'd choose the Beemer +++

100% of people notice it (approximately ;)) but I've not come across any one who sees it as a problem. As mentioned before, you notice it first time but then you don't after.

B7 or B8 ? B7 is the same as a B6 under the skin - i.e. old engineering and design. Things have moved on and the B8 is much better. I guess it depends why you're buying. I'm not buying for the looks as at the end of the day it's a family car not a design master piece.

With regards a 335i Touring - the Touring part of the name is just rediculous. My saloon had more rear space!

All these modern 'Touring' or 'Avant' models are a joke!

Remember your S4 last year mook? and Jon's Beemer? you were both struggling to get everything in the boot, then my Mondeo hatchback swallowed up both your bootfull's of stuff, plus all mine and James' in one go, hence when we sneaked off with your camera!!
