03098631
Hi, Currently driving a 56 Golf 1.9 tdi sport and coming up to three years old and looking to trade it in for the new Golf 2.0 TDI Gt but have been reading mixed reviews about it. Has anyone got one, it was either this or the 2.0 Sciroco GT but the scriocco seems to look a bit unpractical for a business car when I'm taking colleagues/suppliers places. Also is the bluetooth and DAB radio worth it? Thanks Matt
Drewcam
Hi Matt, My better half has a 57 plate Golf 2.0 TDi GT Sport. I really really like it. Nice torquey engine, comfortable and plenty room for four adults. The sky rocket will also sit four but like you said it does look a bit more cramped in the back for passengers. I'v heard reviews on how the 170 is a little bit more harsh than the 140 but i don't find any problem with her 170 at all. Last time i looked she was getting 48 mpg. Nice engine for motorway cruising but also great for hooning around country roads in. I'v been on a trip around Scotland and bigger engined petrol V8's struggled to shake it off. Can't comment on the DAB or bluetooth as hers doesn't have it.
03098631
Thanks Drew, Was looking at 170, unfortuantly the insurance is a killer for me as still classed as a young driver at 24:eek: so its the 140 for me which will still be a bit quicker compared to the 105 i've got at the moment! Am going to go and have another trip to the dealer for a test drive of the scirocco i think, will be sad to see my mark 5 golf go but had a few problems with the engine and gear box and its warranty is fast running out! I also looked at the A3 sport but find the equipment levels seem to be poort compared to what you get for your money and when reviewed in comparison with the VW family! Drewcam
Sounds like you have a soft spot for the Scirocco A test drive is the only and best way to resolve your thoughts. Mrs Drew looked at the A3/A3Sportback and Leon. I think she chose the right car in the end
Calm Chris
Analogue radio melts in a few years, DAB required otherwise (given time) the standard radio won't work ! Existing analogue commercial radio licences are due to expire between 2009 and 2027 and under current legislation these licences will be re-advertised. "However, in the future this spectrum might be better used for other services such as mobile television, more digital radio, more community radio services or other new technologies," said Ofcom. Ofcom said an option would be to impose a common end-date for all analogue radio licences. A further option would be to remove the automatic renewal for analogue licences whose holders are also offering a DAB service on a relevant radio multiplex. Ofcom's consultation closes on June 29. Mook
2012 is what's being proposed at the minute. I reckon there will be a big market for after-market widgets that you can use to convert a DAB signal into something your standard radio can understand. I'm not dumping my old Roberts radios for anything and I don't want to fork out £150 for a DAB version (at home that is, not in my car!)
