....

I'm afraid that I was hoping for something which looked a bit more hardcore. It just looks like a Mk6 (which I don't like the styling of) with a Rocco R front. At least the R20 has a more attractive exhaust config than the wheelbarrow Mk6 GTI.

But the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

On the Golf R mk6

The golf R bumper been the same as the scirocco R may then include the DRL LEDs the scirocco has maybe?.

The side skirts are a nice addition imo.

The return of the R rear centre pipes are too.

Im guessing it will get the 18s and the optional 19s of the scirocco R known VW.

I also think i spy the LED rear lights.

VW have never done hardcore, sorry thats left to other companys in the past like Ford, honda, Peugeot and the like. Its not in Volkswagens nature. SEAT was 'suppose' to be the more focused brand ie slightly more hardcore but they get held back!icon9.gif

In the news it talks about the RS as its rival. The RS is a heavy beast (no idea why) so the extra weight of the '4x4' R golf will not hinder it. Performance similar to the Audi S3 afterall its basically that car with peoples car cloths on rather than sundays best, probably the same price too lol.

The problem i see is price and availability. From experience Its easier to find a needle in a feild of haystacks than get an ok deal on a mk6 GTI. Hens teeth are easier! Even then its very very expensive. So im sure VW will do the same with the R and it will be even more expensive and harder to get. Were as you can get a large discount on an S3 (less than £25K for one now) which will make the R look very expensive in my eyes.

I read today that Seat are launching a MK2 Cupra R with the 265bhp engine as per the Rocco R.

SEATCupra.net - Your #1 source for SEAT information - New SEAT Leon CUPRA R to debut at Frankfurt Motorshow

If the pricing is right that should put a bit of pressure on the GTI. I certainly know when I bought my MK1 Cupra R in 2002 the GTI at the time was underpowered by comparison and did not offer value for money IMO. History could be repeating itself +++

Are we 100% sure the R20 will have a Haldex bearing in mind others are FWD?

That would certainly capture the section of the market that couldn't afford the VW R offering. Very cleverly placed I'd say. The looks are subjective, but there again everything is. I now really like the MKVI GTI whereas before I couldn't gety my head around the design. There again, I've never appreciated Seat's design, so not sure if I could learn to like it's lines. However, as a VW R contender, it sure looks placed to sell well +++

I don't like the MK2 Leon much to be onest but I did like the original MK1 Cupra R hence why I owned one.

As I understand it, this offering from SEAT will also have a lot of standard kit, which are options on the GTI. I don't see this as competition to the to the Golf R but to the standard GTI as I'm pretty sure it will be around that price break.

But I guess the ED35 will get the 265bp engine +++
