bigjock85
hi folks not sure if some have remembered some of my previous posts, but well today the car gave in. car was very sliggish and i thought its just cold (-5degrees outside) so kept driving, then after about 10mins when i went to overtake i realised it was still very sluggish, and there was a screech then a shgudder then a chugging motion with the yellow engine block warning light flashing, and serious lacking of power! also engine makes a well weird noise and there's a serious shaking from engine! :s called the RAC out he plugged in computer thingi, and 4 faults appeared. the good news was the 4 wheel drive section was all good, so no clutch, gearbox or quatrro issues! however 4 issues in the eng managment bit. No2 cylinder misfiring, and another cylinder it didnt identify. also an issue with the DV im assuming thats diverter valve i was told u didnt bneed to change when car was remapped, and a pressure drop with the turbo. now i think im right in saying the 2003 S3 comes with coils with the plug and u gotta change all 4 at same time, and im thinkin about 60quid each ish? plus the VW (as its at a VW garage closest i could get recovered too) diagnostics at 50quid, so 300quid. now has anyone got any ideas or links to where i can find costs for turbo's just incase it is stuffed? Hopsta
You change coil packs individually
PetrolDave
plus the VW (as its at a VW garage closest i could get recovered too) diagnostics at 50quid You don't have to pay that many times for a full VCDS (VAG-COM) lead and licence to pay for itself... Paul
Coils should be around the 30 quid mark, just replace the faulty one(s) Diverter Valve should be around the same. Pressure drop is most likely to be a boost leak. (May even be solved by changing the DV) Remember some of those faults may be old faults, logged and not cleared if its not been on a diagnostic and cleared for a while. Try and get it booked in with a VAG Specialist.

Mook
Genuine VW/Audi Coil packs are £25 from GSF Car Parts - Google them to find your local branch
bigjock85
situation resolved turned out it was just a faulty ignition coil. they only changed the duff one, and only got charged 1 hrs labour so 100quid, happy with that! question? is it easy enough to change the ignition coils? as can save 60quid if i do it myself, wen changing the other 3! ps. i think she's been firing on 3 cyclinders for a while cos omg she doesnt half shift now, jeez
Mook
Glad it's sorted. Yes, the coil packs are dead easy to change. Just pull the connector off, pull out and replace
bigjock85
sweet i think i can manage that, will get bits tomorrow hopefully!
Paul
It as easy as Mook mentions, except coils 3 and 4. There is some other bits to take off to gain access on the S3, but nothing major. Just remove and refit, it should be fairly obvious, but you might need a small 1/4 drive socket set. bigjock85
yeah got job done now, cheap set of allen keys from halfords 9quid so im up 90quid over what the stealerships were after! however the engine management light is on all the time now, so need to try find a place to get that cleared cos i aint paying for a full diagnostics from a dealership! (im near Glasgow if anyone knows anywhere ) still got an issue at 2k rpm sometimes (car stumbles revs dont drop but no acceleration, semi violent jolting then it's fine), but im thinkin thats maybe a remap issue, from reading other posts! but its not everytime at 2k sometimes its fine, other times i get it everytime i pass 2k. also cant work out exact throttle position which this happens, as full throttle is fine, but sometimes under normal driving i get the problem, every gear at 2k! but car drives great now so i'll fix that when ive got some cash!
