Andy_Bangle
For those of you expecting V12 engines and 10mpg - look away now! The Toyota iQ-based minicar is coming and production begins in 2010. PRESS RELEASE: Aston Martin Cygnet Concept Aston Martin today releases the first official images of the 'Cygnet' – a new luxury commuter concept car. The Cygnet concept represents a creative, environmentally conscious solution, being small, yet with presence – and highly fuel efficient, now combined with the prestige of Aston Martin's luxury brand ownership. Work on the concept is ongoing and will continue into 2010 when it is hoped that it will become a production reality initially available to Aston Martin customers in the UK and Europe. cruiser647
I think Mr Bean will have a new target. Rather than abuse Robin Reliants, he should abuse these things.
Soulboy
Dont manufacturers have to start hitting minimum CO2 targets 'across their range' or something in the future? I seem to remember Porsche being up in arms over it a couple of years ago. If that is the case - its a very smart move. Sell loads of these little beauties and you can carry on as normal with your top end models.....and still hit a decent average CO2 target. A cunning plan. But I may be wrong
JonC
You're right - that is a very cunning plan (If you're correct with your assumption though)
cruiser647
Yes, they will have a target across the range. I think that was part of Porcshe's reasoning in trying to grab VW.
Mook
That is minging, vile and utterly tasteless. It's about CO2, but, from the original info that was on here earlier in the year with the clay version, Aston were only going to sell it to their existing customers? Andy_Bangle
Aston were only going to sell it to their existing customers? Yeh, that what today's press release: "...initially available to Aston Martin customers in the UK and Europe." So it will be buy a DB9/Vantage get one free, buy a DBS and get 2 free! Arch
I thought the idea for this thing was that it was not to be available for individual sale and for it to be more of an 'accessory' for the Aston Martin buyer. I.e. you buy your big boys toy for maybe business meetings/weekends/holidays and have a Cygnet for going in to the city or maybe you pick one up for the 'little lady'..... AlfaMale
That's what I thought to Arch. Good idea to make money, but a bad idea as it will devalue the brand if it goes mainstream.

cruiser647
I wonder if there will be anything to stop the new owners from selling them? Also, once they've fulfilled the existing owners orders, what will they do - they will sell them along side the AM cars.
JonC
I wonder if there will be anything to stop the new owners from selling them? Given that their only intended for existing AM customers, perhaps that will ensure that they are desirable come re-sale time.
theduisbergkid
They will sell it to anyone and everyone. I guess to boost the 'image' they'll offer the first production ones to existing AM customers, then when full production* comes they'll flog it to anyone who wants one. What a pile of wa nk. *Covering existing interior in leather and gluing on a posh grille.

bircham
They'll have to sell it for at least 25k if they are not going to get Mr 'look at my massive exhaust' buying them. I reckon it would be cool parked next to the Vantage for the little lady to use. Plus, in snowy weather it would get a hell of a lot further than a Vantage would! steelwind101
What could be done here is clever though. AM make a range of expensive luxery cars, i think at about £12-£14K this car would or might be capable of breaking in to new markets. Think of emerging markets where the emphasis on cheap, small transport with the ever pressing C02 issues from the outside world. Young hipsters in new cities could be intreasted in these, and following that emergence of AM as a mainstream premium brand. Take out the Mini and the Cygnant is the only premium ultra compact. Its also (i would expect well built and reliable), durable and fit for places with small roads and traffic issues. This would be an idea start for a new premium car line! Not to mention, other brands like Merc have issues shrinking there cars, its just not expected that there luxery cars be small. However, start small....and then you have already created the idea of compact and premium! Cant be too far from Investment Dars mind. garcon magnifique
Look out for reports of random acts of violence by a fat bloke with a beard in Wilmslow and Alderley Edge. If and when I see one of these things I'm not sure I'll be able to contain myself.
CarMad
Personally if it means that Aston stays in business and pays less tax as a company for making mostly aspirational cars I don't see the problem myself. I'd rather they didn't need to create this but hey we live in this new eco world and they are just playing the game.
