Andrew
Test was in a Citroen XM I think. First car was a red 1.1L Fiesta. D780 APM! First crash was shortly after a karting evening. Thinking my 1.1L was a kart I hoofed into a mini roundabout, understeered hugely and ended up driving along the pavement, scraping down the side of someone's fence and coming to a stop between a lamp post and said fence. Thank the Lord above that there were no pedestrians about. Bloke who owns the fence pops his head over it; I say "hello, close call there", he seems chilled out so I bvgger off, leaving a red scrape mark down the side of the fence he couldn't see. Next crash, same car, its final day in this world too. In Bristol some tit in a van pulled out infront of me. Had only just set off and also just put my seatbelt on ... lucky boy ... Biscuits
Test: Driving instructor's Ford Escort 1.6 Diesel. First Car: Opal Kadet 1.6SR First Crash: Opal Kadet 1.6SR Reason: District nurse reversed out from between 2 parked cars in her Audi 80. Insurance went 50:50 Audi looked like new, Kadet front wing written off! Held together with black Duck tape for remainder of ownership

Scotty
Test: Mazda 121 (I think) Learnt to Drive: Mum's Polo 1.0L (no servo!) First Car: eerrrm never owned one so the H reg Escort 1.4L company pool car First Crash: H reg Escort 1.4L company pool car Reason: The Renault Traffic shouldn't have been coming towards me on the single track road (Punch Bowl Lane near Hemel Hempstead I think). Looked all the wheels and went head to head. The Escort lost. I was put in a Fiesta 950 "to calm me down". It had the opposite effect as it would slide around roundabouts at the drop of a hat and was actually more fun than the Escort. It was actually repaired and at one point had a lady hit the bonnet, slide up it and smash the windscreen with her head. That was the last I saw of it as the following day I got my new Mondeo. One of these (Ronin): The trickiest thing must have been stopping people firing rocket launchers at him while he was performing the three-point turn. garcon magnifique
Test: My Dads Driving school's Lada Riva no less What a beast of a car! My mate had one of them, handed down from his dad. The bus steering wheel, tiny tyres and rwd made for hilarious handling on wet roundabouts! Oh and I put a Maestro upside down into a ditch. I hurt myself the most when I undid my seat belt and dropped onto the roof doh I'm so glad I'm not the only one to have done that...
pontyslapper
Test - Diesel Fiesta First Car - VW Polo, (that was shagged and returned) so really 950 Fiesta - good times! First Crash - Diesel Fiesta as learner - some idiot rear ended us at a junction. After test, in traffic at bottom of hill - rear ended by a bloke just off a back to back shift pattern - 950 fiesta, written off at more than I paid, purchased back from ins. co., sorted, MOT'd and back on the road! Yay!

Fond memories of my Maestro. Started life as a 1.3L and finished life a 2.0 turbo. Great in straight line but not so good in corners
Barry Scott
Test - Fiesta I think, can't remember really, just remember the fit examiner bird having a very short skirt and was sitting sideways to watch my mirror signal, maneuver! First Car - Fiat Panda 1000 with a five speed gear box but 4th gear not working as it would just pop out of gear when you put the clutch in every time! First Crash - Mini Metro 1.3 City X with some nice GTA alloys I got from the scrap yard and the lowered look mainly due to the hydrolastic or whatever the feck they used needing to be pumped up, crashing at a T junction after sitting behind one other car, looking right to turn left, all completely clear so I started to pull forward, the car in front didn't... caught my headlight on their bumper. Arch
Passed test in - instructors Renault 5 Camparse. First car - Mk2 Escort 1600 Sport First crash - Mk2 Escort 1600 Sport Reason - Put it down to rear tyre blowout on a bend (hit some gravel then a bank) heading to mates house after going into town for food & videos. Rolled the car and ended up facing the way we'd come. One mate in the back (no seatbelt) complaining that was a full bag of prawn crackers he'd just opened and now they were everywhere around the car. Other mates lasting image of that event is of me, walking the wrong way towards the direction I thought his house was in, picking up off the road and then carrying both my front and rear windscreens, (both completely undamaged) one under each arm. Car was a write off. Dad, Uncle and Uncles friend came to pick me up, Uncles friend then drove the car back about 15 miles to my grandparents farm through all the back lanes with his coat zipped right up as no windscreens. Andrew
Ah, so it wasn't an XM then. God knows then, it wasn't a BX. Think hatchback of Auris and Focus size in 1996.
steelwind101
Passed in: Corsa 1.2 First Car: Pug 106 1.6 (had as a second car for about 10 years and sold it a couple of years ago!) First Crash: Pug 106! Someone backed out there drive way infront of me and i was doing about 30 MPH. Suprisingly the insurance company repaired the little Peugeot. First Proper crash (write off) Dodge Stratus 2.4, got caught in a gravel trap on the side of a frontage road and span out in to a field. All the wheels were flatterned, fluids pouring out of the car as i busted the whole underneath of the engine, the brakes etc and i hit my ribs pretty badly on the door/interior handle below the window! It was a graduation present from my girlfriends grandfather to her, she is now my wife....she had only had it about 4 weeks! Teacake
You mean teh ZX? ZX - decent car, that. My wife got one to replace the AX written off in her first crash. Tipex
You took your test in one of these? The 3 point turn in a side street must have been tricky. 3 point turn would have been a piece of p1ss in one of those, in fact, it'd have been more like a U turn, they have a steering lock like a London cab! My mate had one of them, handed down from his dad. The bus steering wheel, tiny tyres and rwd made for hilarious handling on wet roundabouts! I used to sell Lada's many years ago, I'll tell you what, they may have been utter sh1t, but they were still great! I've had so much fun drifting Lada's before the Jap's had even thought about it, and all at about 10mph! First Car - Fiat Panda 1000 with a five speed gear box but 4th gear not working as it would just pop out of gear when you put the clutch in every time! Was it white? if so, you didn't buy it off (or sell it too) a lad called simon did you? he had one of those that didn't like 4th as well!
Tony M
I passed my test in my sisters 1969 1300 VW Beetle in April of 1983. The 1st car I owned was a 1972 Ford Escort 1300 GT later that same year. My 1st accident was 2 weeks after my test, in my sisters Beetle which I span and hit a tree backwards in, writing it off. Wrote off my car and his, had to pay for repairs to the other 3 (Thank god for insurance!) My overiding moment of that crash was watching the Artic lorry in my rear view mirror trying to stop! 2nd crash, 20 years later blocked 3 lanes of the A1 when I snaked a car trailor. £700 worth of damage to the trailor and one written off Mondeo!
