Sponge
I'm trying to get an old scanner working and it seems XP mode might be the best way to do it. (Compatibility mode doesn't work.) I've installed all the required stuff from MS and have it running. My questions are - do I need to install AV and run updates in my 'XP world'? Some Binging reveals I may need AV, but I haven't found anything about running Windows Update yet. I just wondered if anyone here knew.
Sponge
I decided to install Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Updates in my vitrual XP world. Everything works great and I got my scanner working. It'll be a bit of a faff having to start XP to use the scanner, but I don't use it that much and it's better than paying for Vuescan or even a new scanner. Mook
To answer your question (even though you've now done it!) yes, you should install AV and run updates, as the XP OS is just as vulnerable in a virtual environment as it is in a physical one. Sponge
Good to know I did the right thing. I'm going to have to do it all again now, now that I've got an SSD.
