njbennett122
As the summer is on its way, im gonna get my car all spruced up for those hot summer days i am gonna book it into chipsaway or wonderwheels soon to get the wheels repaired, as there are quite a few scuffs on them. Now I have noticed that there is an increasing build up of brake dust/caked on crap in the corners of the spokes, as well as a lot on the inside of the wheel, which makes it look a little dull, which i cannot remove through normal washing. What would be the best thing to remove this? is seems very reluctant to come of using conventional methods, so will need some remover of some sort. Can anyone reccommend anything that will work, but not erode away the paint on the wheel at the same time? can i be realistic that i can get my wheels as shiney as new again? Any advise much appreciated. Neal.
sidicks
I'd recommend 'Wonder wheels' to get your wheels back into as new condition, then Wheelwax to keep them that way. Sidicks

Scotty
I used to to use Wonder Wheels and it certainly shifts the muck but it isn't very kind to your wheels. Now I just clean them with normal car shampoo and then apply Autoglym EGP. This helps the brake dust just wipe off.
njbennett122
Thanks for the comments chaps... I shall try wonder wheels, but in small amounts, and see how it goes. Neal.
Bushy
see the other thread, but basically Whele Brightener from Meguiars is non acidic so not so harsh on you rims and brake discs as wonder wheels which can cause caliper corrosion I guess dirty wheels are better than no brakes!!! http://www.extremecarcare.co.uk/meguiars.asp?cat=etyre
Snail
Yesterday i gave my car a really good wash and polish, and tried a new alloy wheel cleaner brush from halfords. Basically it looks like a brillo pad on a stick. I spray the wheels with alloy wheel cleaner, and a quick rub with this brush, and they are absolutely sparkling. I did mums wheels as well, and they had some nasty staines where residue had been left, they came off with ease. Very impressed with this brush, didnt scratch either set of wheels, got rid of the marks on mums wheels, got rid of most of the black grit stuff on mine (that sh#te that doesnt wanna come off). And a bargain at £2. Its especially good at getting into the corners of spokes.
Markpaq
I dunno what effect it has on your tyres but I was given a tip to use plain old sugar soap (as in decorating) and it's incredible I've used both the ready made squirty bottle that you can get from B&Q etc and made my own solution up from the crystals/powder. It really is the dogs danglies and I've always rinsed it off straight away just in case but go on, give it a go, I think you'll be surprised (and save some cash). markweir2000
I use Wheelwax you can get it from www.wheelwax.net no grime or salt even in this weather sticks to your wheels all you need is a gentle wash afterwards (leave youre toothbrush beside the sink) Honestly i swear by this stuff
