Riz
I have seen about 2 on the roads, I find it pretty hard to spot them if its not in a bright colour. Riz
Tipex
As i said before, I test drove one and really liked it, and that's hard to admit for someone who hates VAG products! My only criticisms are it looks a bit dull (although I can see that would appeal to some people), it feels too heavy, and it's not communicative enough. I reckon a set of poly bushes and stiffer roll bars would go some way to helping the overall feel, but I don't think that feeling of weight will ever go away. I spanked it over an hour or so over my favourite local roads and really enjoyed myself, if I was in the market for a hot hatch I'd definately be seriously considering it, however I'd want to try a Scirroco R, as I think the lack of the 4wd system makes it a better overall package, assuming it's broadly similar in other respects. Soulboy
Hurry up and get yours tp27! I think there is only me and ashleywater on here with a new r and I want someone to talk to :-( Mine has done 10k now and I reckon its the joint best car (along with mk4 r32) that I have owned. It's hugely capable - and most people overlook it simply because of the price. Suits me fine. I like having something different. I have noticed that the exhaust has got a lot more rumble when the weather is warmer and with some miles on the clock. It pops during upshifts when accelerating hard

TP27
Well, I'm up to 2,000 miles now in the Golf R and I've only seen three others on the roads - two Black and one Silver. Had a few blasts up to Inverness and back and whilst it's a different drive to the R32, it's a more accomplished car IMHO and better built. You need to 'stir the porridge more' to get the most out of the engine using the Revs rather than being lazy, as the V6 allowed and I can see why so many buyers opt for the DSG option. Great great car, could do with a touch more top end speed, however, happy enough I have to say !! I'm finding the RS3 tribulations amusing - the Golf R is not cheap at all, although it's a rewarding and fun car to have !!
Soulboy
Mine has gone a lot louder once I passed 10k miles. The exhaust has a good old deep rumble now, especially in warmer weather. I have now seen 2 on the road (in 10 months ownershiop). A white one heading into Wythenshawe on the wrong side of the road - which looked like it had just been nicked. And a black one going towards Didsbury. Its a close 2nd fave of all the cars I have owned (after the mk4 R32) - and as I have said before, in many ways very similar. btw TP27 - your consumption will improve with more miles under your belt. Having owned a Mk4 too, I can agree with that comment !! Range in the Mk6 R is superior to the MkV R32, only just and it definitely responds better with a tank of Shell V-Power. Had another blast yesterday and mileage on the clock certainly beds the engine in well - it is rapid !! It's nice too to get back to a 3-door, much as my last R32 in 5-door guise was more practical, the 3-door chassis does impress. Happy days indeedy !!! :D
TP27
Ready for the Winter now too - picked up a set of MKV Zolder alloys, had them sand blasted, powder coated and painted Gloss Black and put the Conti Winter Contacts back on. Nothing like being prepared !! :znalika:
