Ebzoid
Hi guys, I've just acquired a Feb 2008 A6 2.7 tdi Quattro s-line LeMans which I absolutely love - definitely the right choice to trade in my Lexus RX350! Anyway, I was wondering if you more experienced owners would be able to clarify something for me: the car comes with telephone prep - Bluetooth but no handset in centre console. I'm thinking if getting the cradle for the iPhone 4 so I can charge the phone and use the external ariel. If I were to plug the phone into the cradle, does the phone still need to connect to the car by Bluetooth? The manual seems to suggest that I could switch Bluetooth off and still connect, but I'm sure I've read somewhere that it still needs the Bluetooth to connect. Any thoughts and/or definitive answers gratefully received. Thanks
DanG
I have an iPhone 4 cradle but still need to connect via blutooth - recently changed from a blackberry cradle. Think I only have 'low prep' though - i.e. just a charging cradle. Presumably you have a flat base plate in the armrest?
Ebzoid
Yep, just a flat base plate in the arm rest into which I'd connect the cradle. I have to say, it would be no big deal connecting via Bluetooth - I just wanted to better understand how it would work.
Scotty
Generally the cradle charges and extends the phone aerial to the external one. The actual connection to the MMI etc is done via BT.
Ebzoid
DanG and Scotty, thanks very much for your responses - clears that up. I still intend to get the cradle as, for me, the charging alone makes it worthwhile.
DanG
Exactly why I got mine - Blutooth drains my phone battery pretty quickly.
