Tipex
One of a few very rare cases where not wearing his seatbelt saved his life! Now, where's everyone that's scared of RWD?
Scotty
Feck! I guess there's a reason we have central reservations on fast roads!

Tipex
That looks like a nasty road to drive on!! It does, there's a worse one here though, a section of motorway in Birmingham, 3 lanes either side, no hard shoulder, just concrete walls, and no central reservation! Booster
I know it very well!! To make things even more complicated, they change directions of some of the lanes - more going into the city in the morning and reverse it at night!! (Or at least they used to). patently
You need to be a nutter to use the very outside lane of that road. But it's in Brum, so that's ok.
patently
Here you go, the A38 Aston Expressway. Goes from the Gravelly Hill Interchange to Birmingham city centre. The red lane in the middle can be either direction depending on whether its am or pm. Overhead gantry signs control it, and keep a one lane separation between the opposing traffic streams. My sister once worked as an A&E doctor in the hospital which covered this area and the nearby bit of the M6. Busiest period of her professional life so far, apparently. Of course, this is in Brum, so none of the above above is pronounced like it it spelt. Arr.
Scotty
We used to have roads near us where it was one lane each way plus a central one which was just a free for all! It was known as suicide alley. It still exists but at least you can now see which side has priority !
Tipex
We had a road a bit like that, only the central lane wasn't really a lane, just everyone used it as such, it was crosshatched out but was wide enough to overtake into oncoming traffic. In the end, they stopped maintaining the edges of the road, which resulted in pot holes and giant puddles, forcing people to drive nearer the middle 'lane' and not leaving enough room to pass into oncoming traffic. When that didn't reduce the number of accidents (surprisingly ), they painted out the sides in cross hatching, resurfaced a narrower width of road and removed the central crosshatched 'lane' so now everyone has to overtake directly into oncoming traffic (it's one of those roads where everyone has to overtake everyone else). NewNiceMrMe
I have a feeling the A38 is where I sat in a mini-bus heading back from an Aston Villa v Man United game in the 1980's - for the best part of 12 hours IIRC. There'd been a tanker fire on the M6 and nobody was allowed to go anywhere. I think we won 0-3 (maybe 1-3) but it didn't make it any easier and I never went back to Villa Park after that. patently
Quite possibly. It often has that unique distinguishing mark of expensive state-organised congestion-reducing initiatives... massive tailbacks
Ian_C
How's this for a lucky escape: There were two people in that car though weren't there. Frustration causes accidents. The camera vehicle (bus?) was in the outside lane from 1:40 to 2:30 there, the reason the Lada went for the undertake. I remember years ago when my 205 GTi was my only car I saw a truck pull out massively early to overtake the truck in front approaching a hill on the A14, big gap between them, so I flicked into the inside lane, went 'underneath' the rearmost truck and then back out to overtake the first truck. Very VERY silly......
Torino101
I assume you 'under took' the truck not literally went 'underneath' it If you did mean underneath, you have a death wish and are actually Bond.

Tipex
I've seen a few blowouts, but never one that violent, I was about to suggest he was lucky f*cker for it not rolling despite coming very close, then I noticed the truck had disappeared through the smoke, presumably down the embankment.
