Tipex
They've only sold 500? I didn't realise it was that bad.

Overwhelming UK demand or poor sales in Europe and we had already committed to the parts? Edited July 19, 2012 by Merlot
Mac
They've only sold 500?I didn't realise it was that bad. ?? That was the initial allocation, not far off that of the run out 1M? I wouldn't say that's bad. What I think is bad is bringing MORE in as it'll hit resale. I'd be pissed.
DanG
I'd be pissed too. A lot o folk bough these cars in advance as 'a limited edition run of 500'. I be back at the dealer asking for a refund.
garcon magnifique
So ... nobody else predicted they'd do that?
Mac
It's always guesswork isn't it? With the B5 RS4 and C5 RS6 (I think C5, the 'old' one) they were definitely run out models weren't they, they didn't build any more. Same with the 1M, I didn't realise they were building more RS3? It's not like they've not shipped enough elsewhere and are moving to them to the UK either, given they'd be left hand drive?
garcon magnifique
To me it just proves that the VAG of today are cynical enough to market a limited run of 500 and then if they sell them all just send more in with no care for those who thought they were buying a limited edition. Wouldn't be surprised if it was Audi UK who asked for them. VAG are not alone in this, of course, before anyone acuses me of bias (again).
DanG
Bet the first lot went for full price too... No discounts etc
garcon magnifique
I suppose it shows that despite the cynicism from many of us, there were plenty of people out there willing to spend that amount of money on one.
eldavo69
They're building more to replace all the ones that wet pop under warranty

They did the exact same thing with the Golf GTI ED30,and all the owners complained and all got sent tacky numbered plaques :-)

cruiser647
With the C5 RS6, they then produced the C5 RS6+. Yes, it had more ponies and was only the Avant, but still (arguably) the same.

Yes I guess there was, but in light of my own issues, and the fact that they are now bringing in more, discount on the new car due for build week 40, is going to mean some major discount, or I'll personally be walking away, besides which, the time they took to build the first 500, they will still be making the nect batch,by the time the next olympics comes around, they have been nothing short of cr4p where this car has been concerned
NewNiceMrMe
Doesn't it diminish the exclusivity that owners have bought into as well? 500, now up by 50%. There are 400 1M's in the UK - and I don't think they're planning to produce any more? I don't see how Audi can get away with this without upsetting people. robbie_n
Personally I see this as Audis only response to the the new M135i. New shape S3 won't be around for at least 12 months I would guess so what else could they do. Having had an RS3 on order and walking away, I am so glad I did, the M135i looks amazing value alongside the RS3 and will no doubt be more enjoyable to drive, will be very tempted when they are actually available to drive. Paul
Good news for me. There will be a fresh choice of second hand RS3's in a couple of years time when I might be looking to change. The current ones wouldn't really be much newer than the 2011 S3 I already have.

I think Audi have gone way past upsetting a large part of their core fan base, with this car, for a lot of reasons, which is a shame, as it is a bloody good all round car, when all is said and done
ashleywater
Just to bore everyone, had an opportunity to take a demo today in a second hand RS3, reasoning being that I was seriously considering cancelling my current order (Yet again I know!) The result? The drive was that excellent, even better than I remembered TBH, that good, I almost bought the car there and then, just couldnt live with the colour and the wheels, but it was close run thing, almost reached for the plastic, and then put my head on, and walked away, to wait for my replacement order to turn up. Anybody out there who hasn t driven one, I would kindly suggest having a rag in one, you might well be pleasantly surprised, not least by the steering and ride comfort, which TBH was a revelation for an Audi, it could be that this particular car had a few miles on the clock and was thoroughly loosened up, but jeez it was super quick and overall extremely good
