max_b
CSL prices have gone silly recently, primarily fuelled by Hexagon buying low mileage'ish cars and whacking a 10k+ margin on them - they are focusing their efforts on the far eastern markets and they are selling them! I'm not sure how they are adding BMW (Mondial) warranty though, as the servicing regime (every 2 years worst case) has not been adhered to on a lot of cars that have been for sale - look at the service gaps on the black one you linked Sam - however somehow they seem to be able to add warranty - be interesting to see if Mondial pay out for repairs knowing about the service gaps - guess they know they are going to sell overseas at that sort of money and the warranty isn't really going to be applicable. Have a look at the CSL register site for more info, especially the for sale section - plenty of commentary there Andrews idea might not be a bad one, but instead of remaping maybe go for a supercharger, there are a few e92 m3 kicking around pushing near 600 bhp comfortably whilst still giving 4 seat useability! Andrew
I did wonder about the supercharger recommendation but he said he didn't like turbo power so I didn't think forced induction would be his thing. However, from what I've read the supercharger route turns it into an animal, as you might expect. Not sure it does much for the fuel economy though! Woppum
I think, my friend, the answer is staring you in the face. Go outside, look in your garage, admire the one next to the black thing and think about tinkering with it maybe? On M3 Cutters people wax lyrical about Evolve remaps although you might have to have a better exhaust fitted to take advantage of it. You can probably enhance the induction noise too but I'm out of my depth on that one. I know where you are getting at Andrew, but this may make the car 0.01% quicker but it won't change the feel of the m3. My heart is saying Csl at the moment. You need to try both cars to understand. There is no other 4 seat car that is like it. M3 included.* * in my head
Andrew
I think what I'm getting at is whether you can change its feel to something closer to the CSL. Suspension, brakes, strip some weight etc. Might be more hassle than it is worth and you are not investing in something that will hold its value or appreciate of course. scillyisles
I have had my CSL since new and it has now done 29K miles. I used to drive daily into London in it for the first 18 months of its life (car has upgraded sound system and sat nav) plus I replaced the seats for custom made Recaro comfort seats in exactly the same CSL fabric as the fixed back OEM ones which did not suit me (I still have the OEM ones in the loft). Those who say the cars are fragile clearly have little knowledge of them - mine and others that I know about have all been amazingly reliable for the technology used. There are some common issues but most are easily cured. The only major thing that went one mine in the 10 years I have had it is the rear diff due to a failed seal. Funnily enough, I appreciate the car more, now that I don't drive it all that often as it is more of a special occasion.

There was no reason too. Bigger regret in my car owning life.

gizze
Prices are going up, although the plate was bought for £15k from memory. This is just down the road from me as I see it from time to time. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bmw/e46-m3-00-06/bmw-3-series-e46-m3-csl------------------2004/2161663 I seriously regret selling mine too, I regretted it before it even went. Calm Chris
There's certain cars you own, and its personal. So when they go it hurts, sometimes for a long time. If I'd held on to the immaculate Pug GTI, the E30, (add what you want it's the same feeling). The fiat coupe 124t thing I used to snaffle for weeks on end (mums spare car) would be the one. She sold it for £400 and I couldn't afford the insurance. That would be £30k mint today. So how high has the market gone, are 60k mile cars getting stupid money?
