Andy_Bangle
Soon i'll have a few hours to kill in Sydney. What should I see or more importantly miss whilst doing the tourist thing? My hotel is near t'bridge so everything seems pretty close. I know a few of you have been before (Mac/Bazza etc) and someone even lives nearby - so all tips are welcome
Mac
Maybe do the Bridge Climb? That's quite cool Get over to Manly too, beautiful part of the Harbour.
Andrew
I think Kings Cross would suit you well.
patently
Get over to Manly too, beautiful part of the Harbour. Something about Bangle in "Manly" doesn't fit, somehow.
cruiser647
I think Kings Cross would suit you well. Night time there is............er....... an eyeful! Oh, go up the Sydney Tower and get on the monorail thingy.
Mac
The monorail is utterly pointless! Doesn't go anywhere. Potts Point/Kings Cross is great for a night out.
Andy_Bangle
Maybe do the Bridge Climb? That's quite cool Does Paul Hogan still work there?
cruiser647
Is it worth going to see the orangey looking mountains to the west of Sydney - or have you seen enough of that mountain stuff in Sweden? Was going to say the 12 Apostles, but it's the Three Sisters* instead. * you can probably find '3 Sisters' in King's Cross too, if that takes your fancy...... Booster
If you get really, really fecked in Kings Cross, oversleep, miss your flight from Sydney and speak very politely with a nice English accent to the ladies at the Quantas desk they will let you on the next flight and give you a can of coke both FOC. Well they did for me anyway.
Mac
There's the blue mountains too That's what Cruiser is referring to in the 'orangey mountains to the west of Sydney'.
Rachel
Up the coast, beforehand i'm Bangkok, Auckland, Melbourne ... I'll wave as you fly over. If you like seafood, you have to try Doyle's for their world famous fish and chips. The other world famous foodie test is the pie floaters at Harry's Cafe de Wheels down near the harbour (on the Navy dockyard side IIRC). As for the rest, Sydney is full of great eating. The bridge climb is epic if you can get onto one of the groups at short notice. The National Heritage Fleet in Darling Harbour and the botanic gardens are great and if someone else is paying, stay at the Observatory. Or you could just attempt to go and track down that most elusive of creatures, the rare pommie Bison.
Andy_Bangle
Thanks for the foodie tips. I had planned on the botanic gardens & taking a Capt Cook cruise of harbour, I also have a ticket to an Aussie Rules game. if someone else is paying, stay at the Observatory. Oh, that's cheaper than the Radisson that i've booked, then i'm staying at QT Surfers Paradise for a few nights R&R.
Lussac
You're going to Auckland? Doesn't Mort live just North of Auckland, he may be able to give you some pointers if you are staying over?
Andy_Bangle
Yep, I'm touring North Island too and have already picked Mort's brains.
eldavo69
Take a 10:30 "coffee cruise" round the harbour; you'll practically have the boat to yourself and there'll be fewer other boats about ruining your photos too.
bazza_g
Sunset and beers at the Opera bar - http://operabar.com.au/ Then chill and have meat and wine at Meat & Wine Co in Darling Harbour http://themeatandwineco.com/locations/darling-harbour-nsw/ Plenty of bars around Darling Harbour before you head of to Kings Cross! Or if you stay harbour bridge side try Wildfire http://www.wildfiresydney.com/
