NewNiceMrMe
320D I get to use regularly sound like a bag of spanners against the 6 cylinder diesels I've used. I've driven a 320d with the same engine as in my 520d. We had one on loan for 2-3 weeks before the X6 arrived. The problem is sound proofing - or the complete lack of it. Drive a 520d and you don't hear even a fraction of it compared to the 3 series.
Mac
Oh I'm sure that's true. Some modern diesels feel...almost like I'd buy one I can't quite overcome the dag-AH-dag-AH-dag-AH. 435D mind......
Tipex
I'm not sure I'd agree. The V6 Audi Diesel I had for 12 months was a nice sound when on the move, and I'd say the same about the straight 6 diesel in mine. Its got a lovely sound to it, not in all cases it doesn't but it certainly adds to the experience of driving the car not taking away from it.I dare say it's the same lump I had in a Skoda Superb and the Phaeton, can't really say it did much for me sound wise, a good engine no doubt, bags of torque, but it still sounded like a tractor from outside, inside it was better due to the soundproofing, but it was never a noise that made we want to use the full rev range just to hear it.The 5 pot diesels we had in the Volvo and the Merc sounded different, but still unmistakeable diesel, and the 5 pot in the VW Transporters sounded like a bag of broken spanners, even if it was stupidly quick for a van full of seats. Riz
Audi are pricing the 2015 RS3 at £39,
shao_khan
Yep - £40k so about same price point as RSQ3, a few extras and they'll be mid to late 40's.

shao_khan
That's my big issue with car prices at the moment, I saw an S3 at the weekend that was £36k, just seems to be getting rather steep.
Ian_C
Beat me to it! They've kept the base price down, but at the cost of spec. So whereas the RS4 has a lot more kit over the S4, this doesn't seem to be the case on the RS3. Not even Super Sports Seats or Nav as standard which is a bit mean! Mook
But aren't all cars relatively more expensive? I can't afford a new car just now, but if I could, I just think I wouldn't. I'd rather buy a 1 or 2 year old whatever for the same £40k. I get that some people want something that's not been driven by anyone else and no-one else has farted onthe seats or picked their nose and wiped it on the door handle, but that's never bothered me - nothing a proper valet can't sort out

Tipex
Or the 'I don't want a second hand car, so you can't compare them'. Which is a fair point, personally I'm not averse to buying new, I've done so many times, but it doesn't really make much sense with my mileage, and what I use it for, so now that I have other priorities, I buy at 1 or 2 years old. cruiser647
1 or 2 yr old cars? Bloody utter luxury in my book! Especially if the mileage is only in 5 digits.
garcon magnifique
Personally, I wouldn't describe eight grand more than a M135i as "keeping the price down". And for those who think they need the 'sure footedness' of 4WD, how much is a sensible spec Golf R?
shao_khan
Golf R in local dealer with ok spec was £39k.
garcon magnifique
So an RS3 with same spec - guessing about £47k? I think I'd stick with the Golf and take it to Shark. Edited February 11, 2015 by garcon magnifique
jimdiesel
Golf R in local dealer with ok spec was £39k. The standard car is better than ok spec!
shao_khan
Yeah I know, but I just have a problem with the Golf R. its almost £40 and its a Golf. That's a £40k Golf and I cannot justify it in my mind as being worth £40k to me, ever, so I tend to be a little negative on the spec. I cannot justify in my mind over £30k for a Golf, it doesn't have for me the feel of a car of that value. I suspect I am stuck in a time bubble where I have distorted views on values and the golf fails that criteria.
TP27
Yeah I know, but I just have a problem with the Golf R. The roads are now littered with them ! Two year Lease deals have been taken at sub £200 pcm, for the basic car - for young drivers, too good to miss.
Torino101
Again for the same price - know which one I'd rather have: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201409177477902/sort/default/radius/1500/make/audi/quicksearch/true/page/1/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/usedcars/price-from/35000/model/rs4/price-to/45000/postcode/wd34dy?logcode=p

theduisbergkid
And for those who think they need the 'sure footedness' of 4WD That phrase always makes me smile. Is Ari Vatanen on some forum now, stressing over his next purchase? I am sure it's fun, but no-one needs 4WD.
TP27
I see what you mean - quick scan and found £189pm on a 2 year deal. It's like a step back in time - Forums are littered with the 19 and 20 year old lads getting the Golf R for peanuts on cheap Lease deals - only the Insurance is equal to over six month's rental !!
